Fortunately my ds will eat anything, however I have found that he really loves feeding me.

I give him the spoon and open my mouth. He loves putting a spoonful of his food in. Then we swap and I give him a mouthful. Sometimes he likes to feed himself with the spoon too (although most of it ends up everywhere)

Other than that I really don't know what to suggest.

She's more than likely getting more than sufficient! You can safely breastfeed a baby exclusively until 12 months! The stuff about iron intake is "research" done largely by, you guessed it, people trying to sell you baby food/formula. It does show that the women who were tested, largely in African countries where food was scarce, had low iron and their babies were lower in iron than they should be as a result. So in a developed country, with you eating well, your daughter is getting optimal nutrition from your breastmilk. I think it's really important to watch babies instincts around this stuff as they know innately what their bodies are ready for which is why they all start wanting to eat at different times. I can send you a great (soon to be published!) article that's very well researched about exclusive feeding to 12 months. I think you should be proud that you're doing such a great job for your baby :D The composition of bm changes significantly as babies grow to provide them with exactly what they need in their age group. Food and artificial bm substitutes can't, of course, replicate this amazing feature which is why bm is so superior. Yay for the booby! And yay for you feeding your bub so beautifully! :D She can probably give what you're having a go, btw, many cultures don't do the whole pureed thing that we do and their babies do just fine. If she really wants to eat stuff you can just mash it up a bit for her or make sure you eat mashed vegies yourself ;) If she's reaching for food she *might* want to eat it or she might just be interested in what you're doing, as she probably is for other things you do too, KWIM?

I've emailed you the article. Enjoy! And I think the public discussion is really valuable btw. I can guarantee that if you're thinking it, so is someone else ;)

I was glad to read that stuff about the iron Janet - have been wondering about that and bub isn't doing so well with the meat!
