Liam will NOT socialize with others  and screams when I take him to the park - although will tolerate swimming OK (probably because I'm with him).
We go to playgroup and he doesn't interact with others there either.
Will he suddenly "click" and actually tolerate others, or am I destined to have a loner of a child?

He will click eventually  It took Jack ages to do the same, he only wanted to play with me....until one day a boy at the park pestered him until he relented to play... and now they're besties!
Keep up the socialising even if he appears not interested, and the click will happen. Even if it is only with one child, that is one friend he has to develop a relationship with, and that may help him settle into school easier when the time arrives. Good luck sweets :fingerscrossed:
i think your son will always be on the shyer side, you cant change their personality, no matter how hard you try, trust me, but its not a bad thing.
ds1 is a shy kid but gets along well once he knows people now (he is 5 ) however the first year in preschool (now known as prep) he had barely any friends to the point i got him to repeat. it was the best thing i could do. it gave him more confidence and now has a bunch of friends. he is still quiet and a bit unsure of himself, but he is also gentle and caring and was the student in his class picked for student of the term last term due to his careing nature

I agree with suemp. Your Ds will prob always be on the shy side. That's his personality.
I was painfully shy as a child. I had freinds growing up but never liked being in goups with people.
I always had one or two close firends.
My parents tried to change me but it didn't work.
I'm a lot better now that I am older, no where near as shy as I use to be.
I agree, keep up the soicialisation as it will help him be around people.
