Hi all,
I am looking for a child restraint/harness for my active toddler LOL I never thought I would use one but am at my wits end with my little man!
He hates the pram (extended periods of time that is) and loves getting out and walking/exploring/running wild  etc
So I am hoping a child restraint will be the answer to our problems.
I recently saw one advertised which looked alot like a back pack with a monkey on it, very cute and not as obvious as a normal "child leash" OMG I hate that word!
Any way I cant for the life of me remember where I saw it advertised, so I need your help. If you have seen the one Im on about or know of a similar one please pm me or post a reply here.
Also if you have used a restraint, did it work? what were your experiences? etc
Thank you in advance
Sarah and Orlando :)

Sarah, i bought the puppy one for Mac, as she is a 'runner-awayer' (LOL)!!
Its great...i've only used it a couple of times so far, only on short trips down town, but she seems to like the idea of having a little backpack on, rather then the harness. A great idea....you don't get as many of those horrible looks.....;)

Shaz- yeah thats what Im worried about LOL the stares, the pointing, the name calling "look at that mother, tsk tsk with the child leash" :p hehehehehe
TF- Bat wings? hmmmm I think I do recall that avatar actually  , My sis would soooo love one LOL for her little Dracula (when his a little older!) how very strange!
Kimmy- I have to admit to really disliking them before O started being mobile LOL now I cant wait to buy one!
Hopefully it will be good for both of us, as O is such a curious little thing and into exploring. His not a "runner" yet but he does have his moments (Tanties) when he doesnt want to hold hands etc which is to be expected (as his only 17months) but I like to minimise tanties where ever possible :D
Thanks for your replies

Both of my kids have been and still are runners!
I hated the idea of putting them on a leash, but the sanity of keeping them safe and near by won out pretty quickly!
I have a colourful leash with a padded front from "sister browne" which seems to be really good.
I was in the post office the other day and a lovely lady said that she refused to take her granddaughter out without a leash as she is very like my Dan - active and fast! Her son-in-law was aghast at the thought of his daughter being in a harness and exclaimed loudly that "my daughter is not a dog!". The lady had the perfect comeback ... "I promise not to put it around her neck then!".
Really, if you have had experience with little ones running off, then you applaud anyone who considers this mehtod to keep them safe. If they take off in a crowd, they can get through the people so much easier than we can while chasing them ... if you chase them, it becomes a game and they run even faster while looking back at you, all the time heading into even more danger ... you are exhausted by even a 5 minute visit to the shops!
Now Daniel is that much older, it is used as a reminder that he needs to stay with me. If he is particularly naughty and running a lot, then it is back in the harness everywhere we go for a week until he settles down and respects the freedom he has been given. It is a very effective deterrant!

Hi
Well I bought the monkey harness this morning (its very cute and soft and plushy!) We went to the shops to trial it out and um I think O needs some time to adjust LOL as he had about 4 tanties from the car to the shops
When he is out of his pram (which is not often while shopping) I always hold his hand or carry him. So I dont think he understands the whole concept yet. He was very happy with the monkey and loved cuddling him and put him on no problems but once we started walking O would head in one direction and I in another!
When I urged him (verbally and then phys. by holding his hand) he freaked out and threw himself on the floor and cried!!!!!
We had some people stare in disgust and others commented on how cute the harness was. So we made it through our first harness experience, heres hoping O gets used to the thing otherwise its a waste of $26.95! hehehehe
