My youngest is only 13 months and she has had juice about 3 times. I much prefer my children to have water, juice contains sugars and preservatives, things I would rather wait till my baby is older to have. When I have given her juice it is a tiny dash in lots of water, just enough to add a bit of taste.

She much prefers water anyway, both my girls do.

I think just because it says 'from x age' does not mean we should start giving it.
Not having a go at one one just sayin that if you ask anyone, water is far better for anyone over juice.

Sorry, just realised I didn't answer one of your q's!

It should not replace a feed, offer water or very diluted juice throughout the day in between feeds.

I agree with Lunar. My kids were given boiled water or breastmilk & milk after 12 mths.better for new teeth to not have juice as well!

oh yes i alaways water down juice but was just wondering wen you start introducing other drinks

kane was born with throat probs and has never taken to feeds well, i thought this would be a good a good idea to keep him hydrated but i dont want to do it too early iykwim.

also while i water down juice i have nothing against those who dont. different strokes for different folks;)

I don't do juice unless i make it myself that means fruit or vege juice. I will introduce it for dd wen she is twelve months as she is getting the same plus fibre from her raw veges.

There are so many sugars and preservatives in kids juice in shops...no way i would be giving them to a little bub.

No worries hun, im sure the coke thing u didnt mean. But if u go with juie from 6 mths i would make it myself like from natural oranges and stuff and dilute it.

As for juice, I would stay clear of it for as long as you can- it can start early bad habits. But if your baby wont take water at all, and you really want to give juice, I suggest making your own from fresh fruits.

Over summer if it was really hot, I was worried because my baby wouldnt drink water hardly at all. So I introduced watermelon- he loves it now, just shoves it in his mouth. I know he is getting lots of fluids too.

Good luck!

Oh, and juice should NEVER replace a feed. It is formula and pureed foods for 6 months old

Im not sure Sue, Bailey has never had juice but Im sure if you want to give it to him and it says 6 months on the packaging it should be fine.

Have you spoken to a CHN about the juice? They might know more.

I dont think it would replace a feed, perhaps just an extra fluid for him to keep him hydrated. His Formula feeds have all the nutrients in them that juice wouldnt have so I probably wouldnt skip a bottle just yet.

Hope little Kane is doing well:hugs:

Try to delay juice as long as humanly possible. If he doesn't take fluids well but has an OK time with mushy foods, try some 'watery' foods like mushy watermelon (without the seeds).. it worked for my daughter when she was around that age - and now she's 12 months old and loves her water and milk!
