Hello all

I think the title of this thread says it all! My 9 month old DD has discovered a new bath toy, herself. At first I thought it was a one off but every night this week in the bath she laughs, kicks and splashes and the whole time has her hands down there

My DH is a little alarmed but Im sure it is quite normal isnt it? I wasnt expecting her to make this discovery just yet as I thought it was more a toddler thing. She obviously is not aware of what she is doing and must love the freedom of having no nappy on when she is in the bath!

Has anyone else's daughter made this "discovery" quite early on?

Its normal :) dont stress DD (shes 27 months) sometimes still does it mainly bath time too, but i dont make a fuss of it so she rarely does it.

Yeah, it's normal. Try not to make a big deal out of it, or she'll either a) do it more or b) worse grow up believing that there's something bad or shameful about her body.

It's a phase :)

Oh yes I wouldnt dream of telling her off ... DH is the one who seems the most "embarrassed" though. She has once done it in her car seat and high chair too and Im not too fussed unless I have visitors around!

DS plays with his willy all the time...I thought he had a UTI and had his wee tested but he is fine.

Dont worry, its normal.

DD started doing this when she was about 8 months old. She still does it, when she is lost in thought, she doesnt even know she's doing it.
DH thinks it's so inappropriate. He gets really awkward as he doesnt think it's right when he is around. He tells her off quite harshly for it.

What upsets me is that she plays with it really roughly! It gets really sore and red.

I dont make a big deal out of it, i move her hand away and say 'no no sweetie, you will make is sore' and then distract her.

Not much else you can do.

My two boys play with their genitalia all the time!! Totally normal.

Isn't it funny how it seems to be much more acceptable for boys to explore their genitalia than for girls? A bit female opression there I think.
