Cough Syrup

I've had a shocking virus that has lasted for 10 days and still counting.........it has developed into a dry cough which is really starting to wear me down.

My question is.......Can I take cough syrup whilst breastfeeding? It's the nyal brand that one can buy in a supermarket. It says not to take whilst pregnant or breastfeeding (probably due to alcahol content) but I am at my wits end with this cough and was wondering if there was any other sinister ingredient in it that might be harmful.

I used to take benadryl as a small dose was enough to ease my cough, my chemist said this was ok . If your overly concerned take it after bubs has fed and express. My local chemist told me it will make bubs a little drowsy but it woulnt do any harm, i was like yourself, i needed something to ease it.

Naturally try a warm honey lemon drink first :)
