View Full Version : Dropping a day sleep
At what age have bubs dropped a day sleep? Ds is nearly one, and he seems to want to go back to bed at around 9am lately, then doesn't want an arvo sleep until about 4.30pm.
There's no way he'd go to bed at a reasonable hour if he had a 4.30 sleep.
Just wondering what other bubs do around this age.
(Of course if might just be a phase, teething, growth spurt, weather, hungry, hot, cold, bored, overtired, sore toe, itchy ear etc etc)
Hey Wattle
My DD2 who is 15 months has been alternating between one and two sleeps for a few months now. I find that if she has a morning sleep by 8am then she will have a second one at about 1pm but that if it is any later than that she doesn't want an afternoon one and then gets really ratty. So if she hasn't gone down by 8-ish then I keep her up until about 10 - 11 ish and that way she gets a lunchtime sleep that keeps her going for the rest of the day.
So my answer is that I think it is about this stage that they start to move towards one sleep a day, but we certainly haven't got there yet!

Cathy,
Chloe dropped from 2 to 1 sleep at around 13 or 14 months. So that might be what Max is up to. It was about a month to 6 weeks transition though, gradually shifting the morning sleep later and later until it was gone all together. During that transition period she'd sometimes have one sleep either before or after lunch, sometimes 2, sometiems the 2nd one would be late in the day and she'd go to bed late as a result. Be as flexible as you can about appointments and meals so you can just go by Max's tired signs and body clock. A period of quiet play in the morning instead of a full nap might help shift his morning nap back a bit closer to where it will eventually be just one nap after lunch.
Good luck!
Good idea KB, there's klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow....
