View Full Version : Passage problems.
Hi All (Merry Christmas)
Jade has been constipated.. has not gone since Tuesday (5 Days now). I'm, starting to worry... how long before I start to panic?
She is exclusively breast fed, is farting lots and is not showing any signs of discomfort.. all that makes me think I shouldn't worry, but I am.. any suggestions or anyone to tell me to chill out and stop beign stupid?
Thanks
oohh I just saw there was another section for this stuff.. sorry folks.. can it be moved? (the thread.. well actually if you can moved Jades problem too, that would be ok)
Apparently it is quite common for babies to not poo. But don't worry, it's not constipation, especially if your bub is being breastfed only. My health nurse told me that breast fed babies don't get constipated. In fact, some babies can go 2 weeks without poo-ing. It's quite normal. If after 2 weeks I spose you could get worried, but other than that, just be prepared for a big one!!
Good luck!

Yeah I think 5 days isn't enough to worry - but if you are still concerned try a small amount of brown sugar in a bottle of water - always worked for my son.
Ahh the days of no pooie nappies - you take me back  . Both my DDs had a stage of going a week or more with no dirty nappies, just lots of wet ones. I was actually really sad to start formula and solids knowing that those days were at an end. Enjoy it while it lasts :D - its not at all unusual for a BF baby.
Cheers

My paed advised us that anything from 10-a-day to one-every-10-days was quite normal for fully breast fed bubs. But I can tell you to be very, very careful when unwrapping a pooey one after a 10 day wait. You would not believe that it all comes out of such a dainty little backside:eek: .
... I also forgot to say that if bubs continues with wet nappies, then all is fine. And ditto on the massive poo! Be prepared! Haha :D
Elyshas going throught that stage at pres also - The chn said it usually happens (with breastfed babies) at about 6 weeks and can be 8-10 days apart ... She went 7 days without one and now has had about 3 in 5 days... be warned also the smell is pretty different than the earlier ones  I can now tell for sure (apart from noise) when shes gone lol
Thanks all
It happened.. it wasn't pretty and it didn't smell like flowers.
I'll learn to be a bit more patient in the future. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Little dude is breastfed too and he hardly poos at all :D
A CHN explained to me that BF bubbas little bodies can use up all the milk, there is sometimes no waste.
I guess what we normally poo is the stuff that our bodies can't use.
Ah, I'd forgotten about the 5 day explosion......ewwwwwwwwww.
