Hi,
I'm feeding my 6mth old and am kinda ttc at the moment and want to feed both so here are my questions:
1) When you first give birth to our second child, do you have mature milk or does colostrum come back?
2) I was under the impression that your milk changed as your baby grew so how does your milk suit 2 different babies?
3)Do you get engorged and sore again?
4) Do your nipples get sore or is that just a first time thing? ( I had flat nipples so the first few weeks was a real trial for me)
Thanks girls, i'm sure one of you lovely tandem feeders can help me out!
1) When you first give birth to our second child, do you have mature milk or does colostrum come back?
Your milk will generally change to colostrum at around 20 or so weeks, and this will usually be the time when your baby will self wean if they are going to, as some do not like the change in the 'milk'
2) I was under the impression that your milk changed as your baby grew so how does your milk suit 2 different babies?
Yes, being pregnant and giving birth will 're-set' your milk, so it will be made especially for the needs of your infant, your other child just gets the bonus!
3)Do you get engorged and sore again?
I did get a litte sore, but nothing like the first time, as I could encourage my toddler to 'help me out' my milk supply settled down a lot more quickly this time. And my milk came in faster, as I had kind of twice the stimulation, IYKWIM! :D
4) Do your nipples get sore or is that just a first time thing? ( I had flat nipples so the first few weeks was a real trial for me)
I think many women find it easier the second time when tandeming, as your nipples are in top nursing shape, supple etc, but sometimes you can still get sore if baby is not latching correctly, after all the new bub still has to learn how to nurse, but it is usualy a temporary phase, as you as a mum tend to be a better 'teacher' to your bub, second time.
Flat nipples tend not to be a problem second time, as the first child has well and truly 'pulled them out'
All the best with TTC!:)
The above post said everything I would have said:yes:

Yep everything that has been said up above :yelclap:
Except I never got engorged and sore- so that was lucky for me :)
Aw Georgia seems like only yesterday we were in RPA sharing the pain and frustration of learning to BF and cracked nipples and now here you are, looking into tandem feeding! It's a beautiful thing  Good on you!!!
