Lucas is 18mths old and he has his check-up with the MCHN next week. She is absolutely the best and I've known her for 4 years but I think there's going to be a problem with 'bam bam's' weight!
We weighed him the other day on our scales and he is 19kg! When I looked in the book for the graph - 19kg wasn't even on the graph for a 0-3 year boy.
He is solid but I honestly wouldn't call him fat. He is tall too - his height is 93cm.
He loves his food but I am conscious (having struggled with weight my entire life) to give him healthy food because I know how difficult it is to break bad eating habits. I think he is going to be a big boy regardless, his Dad's 6ft 5 and I'm 5ft 8. I'm already finding it difficult to buy him shoes because of the width.
My older son Jesse, was the exact opposite - has never been a great eater and is as thin as a rake! At first I thought how wonderful to have one that you don't have to call twice to the dinner table (he even pushes his own highchair over!) but now I'm wondering if this is a sign of things to come.

Hi Carly!
Lucky you!
I would love to have a big boy like yours (Oliver is about 76cm and 9kg at 17months). He is off the chart in the other direction.
I wouldn't worry about it being a sign of things to come. As long as you offer him healthy food choices and he doesn't snack constantly I think he'll be fine.;)
I've seen you Avatar of him, he's such a cutey!

Here he is ... "Bam Bam"!!!
Just something else to add...do you know how difficult it is lifting and holding a 19kg baby who does not hold on at all!

I will never complain about carrying Oliver again!!!
It's amazing how different two siblings can be.

LOL...sorry to laugh, but I'm just picturing it in my mind and that is so cute :D
He is still very young, he may still go through the fussy age at around 2 and a half. As long as you keep offering him healthy food and monitor the "junk" when he's older, then you shoudn't have a problem.
He is going to be a big boy, but so long as he is a healthy big boy, enjoy!!! I'd love to give that kid a huge (((((HUG))))) :D

I know what you mean! Lucas doesn't really have 'hand-me-downs' from Jesse. Jesse goes to Lucas' room and puts on his clothes and because of that 'itty bitty' waist of his, he virtually get into all of the pants/shorts - just the tops are a little too small!

Yes, he would give the BEST cuddles!
Is he a cuddley boy?

well went off and had a lie down and im back hehe. :)
your little bubba is a gorgeous big boy carly! ppl always say coops looks 3 1/2 rather than 2 1/2, he has always been big, was 9p born and im not sure how tall he is, but he is quite tall and weighs about 15-16kgs. your son doesnt look one bit fat at all, just big, like tall and stocky. he is a cutie :)

Lucas is not cuddly at all!!! That's another difference - Jesse is such a smoocher but Lucas will quickly give you a kiss and then he's off! He'll want a cuddle if he's hurt but I've never sat on the couch and held him or cuddled - he does however get jealous if Jesse cuddles me - he'll come over, push Jesse out of the way and then walk off - a bit like "I don't want a cuddle, but then no one else can have one either!"

is he a picky eater carly? coops has become really fussy of late, hardly eats anything, yet still seems to be growing, putting on weight etc, i would think he would be heaps smaller than he is. if its not vegemite sandwiches, weetbix, yoghurt or bananas, he doesnt want it! he used to eat anything, vegies, fish, all fruits, now every dinner time is such a chore if you want him to actually eat some of it.
oh i forgot to add, i know he would however happily eat hot chips, ice cream, chocolate or any other junk if i offered it!

Erin,
I don't think he looks fat either! I think when he started eating solids we were all so excited that we had a child that actually ate without a floorshow being put on - we sort of ran with it IYKWIM! And because Jesse is not a good eater (other than dinner), if Lucas wanted something to eat we gave (and still do) it to him. In the back of my mind I have this attitude from the European side of my family which is...if the child is hungry you give them what they want. You never deny a child food! Fat lot of good it did me - pardon the pun!
My cousin suffers from anorexia and my grandmother (the Polish one) seemed to think that all of her problems would be solved if my aunty would just cook the meals my cousin likes - "That's probably why she's got this 'thing' - her mother doesn't cook her what she likes to eat!" If only it were that simple, but that's the way I was brought up - if you don't eat EVERYTHING you must be sick!!!
He's not a picky eater - I've never had him knock back a meal I've prepared! He's a bit of a locust really - just like his daddy!

Carlyb, your boys sound exactly like mine (size wise and eating habits)!!

DS1 is tall and lanky and a very fussy eater, whereas DS2 is very broad and stocky and only ways 1kg less than his older brother (there is 15mths age difference between them). We always say he is not fat, just very solid!!

You must have great arm muscles lifting 19kg -phew! I know I struggle with DS2 sometimes and he is 13.5kg (he is 20mths).

If Lucas is eating healthy foods, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. He looks perfectly healthy to me!

Wait and see what the MCHN has to say.

Sorry for coming into this thread a bit late!

Oh dear i think this is what Harry is going to be like & im dreading it as im going to be beaten up by my 2yr old heheheheh. As it is he already slaps or kicks me when he gets cranky ! :(
He is 9mths & is already 10kg, he has been wearing size 1 for like 2 or 3mths & im buying size 2 now as well as him being in "toddler" nappies & he isnt even crawling !!!!!!!!!! Like Jesse he wont hold on either unless im trying to pass him onto dad or put him down ! He was too tall for the walker a month ago if you put him in it now he just leans over the tray & picks things off the floor  He is almost too long for his cot !!!! WTH !!!!! I got a bl**dy convertible one so he would have a toddler bed when he was older now he wont even get to use it !!!!!
Oh wells i guess it will be a bonus as he gets older as i can use him to get things in high places as dad is tall so likes to put things up high where i cant reach em  i hate being so short heheh.
I dont even care if Harry is off the charts bugger em if bubs is happy & healthy thats all i care about.
