I've just washed my BBB's 6 times consecutively in the washing machine to try and get the absorbency going so they're ready to use when bub arrives. It looks like its about to BUCKET down outside though - so they're first drying experience is going to be in the dryer.
Do you think this is enough washes? Do I put them on a hot or a cool dryer? Will this affect their absorbency later on?

probably cool dryer will be better for the elastic. But you could put them on a clothes horse, and then put them in the dryer to finish

Yep i would put them on the airer for a the day then pop them in the dryer to finish them off.
If you havent got an airer get one :p
It will be your best friend !

Please someone tell me if I'm wrong but...
Don't the fibres have to dry between each wash? I always thought this and am almost sure I read it somewhere. I always wanted to just wash my nappies over and over too but didn't because I thought it wasn't the same as wash then dry then wash etc.
Like I said please tell me if I'm wrong

I've found that it makes no difference whatsoever either way you do it. I just hate waiting for them to dry that's all. :o
ETA - opps sorry PL, forgot to answer your question. I would put them on the clothes airer aswell for a few days or until the sun pops its ugly head out again then finish them off in the dryer on low.

6 washes is enough- I think that 3 is recommended before they are worn. I'd put them on a clothes horse then move it outside when the sun comes out tomorrow. Or finish in the dryer, which ever takes your fancy :D

Yippeeeeeee
Thanks everyone for setting me straight! Now I no longer have to wait days to put my new nappies on DD.
THANKS

Missy, I read the opposite actually! I read that there's no need to dry between washes, nor add washing powder to each wash  .
PL - like the other girls said, I've got 2 clothes horses, and am going to get another 2 before winter hits. Thankyou for ducted heating! :smiliedance:

I'd put them on an airer inside, if you don't have one yet (get one!) just pop them over the back of dining chairs - especially since there's no REAL hurry for them to dry - they can take their sweet time!

I have always dried between washing, it makes sense. Otherwise, why not just soak them for a long time??
Actually, I read in the info that nurture nappies sends out with there stock, that you should dry between washes - something to do with breaking down the natural oils in hemp.
PL, because they are going on a newborn they should be fine though. I second what everyone else said - use an airer then finish off in the dryer :D
Lately the websites are saying to dry between washes, but I don't think it really matters.
Why don't you just put them on the line and they'll get another good soaking? If you don't have bub here yet it doesn't really matter that they don't dry soon.:)
I have read both dry between and not to bother drying between. I have only bothered drying between once, I washed them twice then dried then washed again. It may make them slightly more absorbent to dry between but I have never had an issue with leaks by just washing 3 times. I just changed a little sooner till I had used them a couple more times.
Agree with PP about putting on an airer and then finish in the dryer. To fully dry bamboo in a dryer will take 2-3hrs on cool depending on your dryer. Hot will affect your elastic and is advised against in instructions for washing and drying.
Hope all goes well with bubs. I am doing the same thing as you right now. :D

I've put mine in the dryer a couple of times. We have a second hand dryer, so the labels for how to reduce the heat etc have been rubbed off. I have been doing them in either normal or half heat (not sure) and there have been no ill effects, in fact, they come out much softer and fluffier. I don't like to do it unless I have to though, as it is not recommended for the elastic, but doing it once before your new baby wears them might make them extra soft for him.
I agree with everyone else though, use an drying rack, they are great for even when it is sunny to move around throughout the day to keep them in the sun. If I have to wash when it's raining, I put the clothes in the dryer and the MCNs on the drying rack inside:thumbsup:
