View Full Version : doesnt want it unless sleepy
DS has in the last 2 weeks decided the bottle is not for him and will only take it when sleepy and even then its about 150ml. This is 3 times a day.
He is 10months old and eating pretty well on solids - not much dairy due to allergies but ok overall.
Whats the story - do I send him to bed without bottle if he wont take it without being in his sleeping bag and about to hit the sack?
hmmmmmm ................??????????

LucyP, OMG!!! My DD has the exact same thing going on too! She has reflux so naturally feeding is a little difficult for both her and I. Now that her reflux is getting better (I mean not too much screaming and trashing around), it's still difficult to feed her. She can only take about 90ml and she's already 12 weeks old, we have to feed her quite frequently about 5-6 times a day and she wakes up for feed twice at night. The only time I find feeding isn't too chaotic is when she's sleepy and lying in her bed. She has no trouble drinking at night though and I think it's because she has good sleep and very hungry (she sleeps 5-6 hours straignt).
I've tried some techniques ie. delay her feeds (from 3hrs to 4 hrs) hoping she'd be hungry and will drink more but that doesn't work - she gets extremely cranky, screams and refuses the bottle. This feeding trouble also distrupts her sleep as she's so hungry and so can't go to sleep :( I then try to give her a bottle but she's too tired so doesn't drink...now I got a very hugnry, tired and furstrated baby in my hands....it takes a lot to calm her down (patting, rocking etc) so she'll drink her milk and goes to sleep.
I can totally undestand your dilemma and wish you luck with your boy. If anyone out there has any advice, please help!
where is everyone? We normally get a few hits - I think they must all be on holidays!
Hiya
In my experience, sometimes bubs just go off their milk for a little while. Sometimes it can be weather related. I know Andrew has been a bit off during the really hot days.
I think that as long as your DS is still having regular feeds and eating well, that all is fine. I'm sure he would let you know if he was hungry/thirsty!
If he wont' take his bottle, what you can you do really. He's at an age where he has more of a choice. If he will sleep happily without it, I wouldn't stress too much.
Just another idea though - maybe its the method of feeding that he is tiring of? Have you experimented with a sippy cup or straw cup? Maybe that would interest him now he's a bit older? Andrew has been enjoying using a straw cup for a few months now, although he only drinks water out of it, still being a BF baby.
Anyway hope that helps!
(and yes, i think a lot of people ARE away...its very quiet around here! Well...in some threads... )
