... and you ran out of clothies and needed to use a sposie *heaven forbid* then which brand would you use?
I'm thinking of buying a pack as a backup and dont know which brand to support - was thinking Bambo Nature would be best... What do you ladies do? :detective:
i'd go terry flats first, then if i really, really, really had to I'd get one of the eco brands of sposies (eco nature was OK we had a sample) even though they aren't that environmentally friendly at all but compared to the other disposables I guess OK.
I'd use a terry flat or some other piece of material, like a tea towel or shirt! If I run out of MCN (which is pretty rare) dd2 goes butt naked while I chuck them in the dryer.
I would rather wipe wee and poo off the floor than use a sposie.

When push comes to shove, I keep my terry flats there ;) -
I would go for an eco brand if I were to buy backups again. I haven't owned any disposables for a month now :)

I love sposies! Not ashamed to say it, but love cloth more now:yes: We use babylove or aldi as backup, I have bought a couple of packs off Ebay recently at a 1/4 of the price!!
BTW: PL, remember that link you had up ages ago for a free nappy sample? I never got mine, did you get yours?
I use Aldi. They are cheap and they do the job, and that's all I ask for from a sposie.
I send Aldi ones to daycare as well.
I actually really like them, as far as sposies go.

A bare bottom
Serously, wow can't even imagine using one..... I think I'd just go and buy something that claims to be eco-friendly... my organic shop stocks something that looks good.....

Yes I did! I didnt get it straight away but then realised that I hadn't requested the sample properly (very weird i'net set up lol)
We went camping and as much as I tried to convince DH it could be done... we just didn't have the space or the bother dealing with cloth for four days. We were rough-it camping and had to take EVERYTHING, including our own water. So I ended up buying the Woolies Homebrand 20-pack (smallest I could get). :crying: I tell you, it was so hard going through the check-out - I felt like a total failure!!
DS was in sposies for months on end last year, but since the switch to MCN full-time, I just cannot face the dreaded plastic anymore.... is this what brain-washing feels like? Cause the cloth mummas of this world have brain-washed me!!  ;)

Wow - I knew our clothies were dedicated but WOW!! Thats awesome ladies!
Okay - so top of the shopping list is flats, flats and flats (yay, that means I get to go shopping again!)
At the moment the plan is to use Eenees Weenees when bub is a newborn (I got the hospital pack) and then after they run out (probably last 10 days or so) then I'll switch to my MCN's (I have BBB's, GK's and BG's - just to try a bit of everything) I also have some Eenee pouches so when bub outgrows the Weenee's snibs I can use them as a backup as well.
So with the flats in tow as well then I should be right... right?? (please forgive me - nesting :o)

Have you got some good covers? You'll need a well fitting cover to hold in the poo explosions.

However many flats you think you need, buy twice as many :D Great spewrags! Also are good for stuffing into pocket nappies

Id buy some aldi mammia as back up
sometimes with a bubs taking 6 cloth nappies in a nappy bag for a couple hrs only, or overnight, just isnt feesable iykwim.
or if you have 2 in nappies LOL.

I've never used eenees...
but I'm talking about the backup flats you will be buying ;)
They are so handy for the newborn stage because you change nappies a lot!

yes, that should be fine! I think its about 10 - 12 changes a day for a newborn.
Yeah, ditto that Cheezelkat:thumbsup: . Good covers are what make a good nappy even better:yes:
PL - it's recommended to have about 24 nappies. If you're worried your bub will be a heavy wetter and massive pooper, then get a few more for just in case.
Terry flats are always handy anyway, even if you don't use them as nappies. Spew rags, wee on the floor rags, stuffers for pockets, etc.

LOL - Well if what Gremily is saying (24 nappies needed total) then I *really* do need at least one cover per nappy.. So I am quite short in supplies! LOL
I'm only saying it's recommended, so if you're dh gets angry that you're buying too many nappies don't blame it on me!
Subliminal message: you need more nappies

If you want the SENSIBLE approach...covers don't need to be washed after every change, only when soiled and can just be aired in between changes...
Please don't kill me

So how many nappies do you have?
Sounds like you have enough covers cause I'd be doing what CK said. Unless they've been pooed on then just air them.
Although saying that Noah used to poo in every nappy, every 2- 4 hours round the clock
Wool is even better in that you only need to wash/relanolise them every 6 weeks or so (unless they get pooped on before then).
I wash my PUL covers when they look dirty or smell funky. They're used a fair bit before that though.

So how many nappies do you have?
I'm actually quite happy with my stash - but as you well know there is always room for more
11 x BBB
3 x GK (am getting another 3 when the new designs come out)
2 x BG (AIO small)
2 x PP (small)
1 x HH (small)
1 x soaker (small)
3 x BB Pul cover
2 x Tot Bots fleece cover's
1 x Bummis
3 x Eenee Weenee snibs
80 x Weenee disp inserts
3 x Eenee pouches
I figure that is a good combination of a few different types of nappies for me to try out. I have heard awesome things about BB's so got a lil carried away when I bought those - but I figure if they dont work and I want to use something else instead then they have a good resale value
Can anyone recommend anything else for me???

Bubblebubs are fantastic !
I havent got them myself but have seen them in action & they are awesome !
Hun you will be fine .... Deeeeeep breaths :hugs:
Mind you ive been the one stressing about nappies lately with DP having a heart attack anytime i mention it ! I have 3 bags of nappies in the nursery with about 20 more on the way lmao ! :o

Bubblebubs are cute, but maybe it's a good nappy to buy in a medium for when bub's a bit bigger? They are quite slow drying and you are having a newborn in winter, that's why I suggest that. Plus newborn's poo all the time and cute nappies are sweet but are only worn for 10-20 mins sometimes!!
Wow, that's quite a stash!
Definately go for some flats though. I used the flannel flats (terry towelling ones too big on a newborn IMO) until DD was about 3 months old and they work a treat for daytime wear  I think BigW/Target/Kmart have the flannel flats now, otherwise go to a baby store.
I have a Bubblebubs AIO in my stash and it's pretty good! I love it because it's a OOAK custom and it doesn't need a cover, but I get more wear time out of BBB.

Oh hun :hugs:I know exactly how you feel. We're going camping this afternoon and no matter how I tried to convince myself I could cloth it, I just can't:(.
To answer the OP's question though, if I wasn't camping and ran out of MCN, I'd definitely use the terry flats.I'm feeling icky at the thought of using sposies this weekend.
Thats a bit far fetched:rolleyes:
Not far fetched, just reflects how far I'd go before resorting to a disposable. Disposables are just not a part of my life and there are alternatives to using them. Babies/toddlers don't necessarily have to have a nappy on anyway. Each to their own.

I'm with gremily on this one. Liam spends half his day nappyless when I do my washing too. He wears one in the bedrooms and when he's sleeping, but during playtime, I put out a big shower curtain for him to play on without a nappy. I find it helps to reduce rashes

Hmmm, yes each to their own I agree. However, I would hate to see the state of my carpets throughout my house if Lachlan went without a nappy! Once he pooed right through the carpet between nappies and then crawled right through it and tracked **** all through the loungeroom:eek: It was so gross
I would like Lachlan to have no nappy time sometimes- but thats not going to happen yet- except when he's in the bath! Oh, and Im lucky he has never had any rashes (except once when he was sick) so it doesnt seem to be harming him bum too much

I dont know as I have never tried one....
If I could buy a pack of sposies I could buy a pack of terry nappies...so I would do that instead ;)
OR...if it was absolutely impossible to get terry flats I would buy those biodegradeable ones...
ETA: I think the other suggestions of tea towels, old t-shirts or nappy free are good too, I would happily do any of those.

I'm another who can go for a long time without washing :o Hence selling a lot of my stash because it's beyond ridiculous. I've started to be more realistic now and keep what i need not what i want to keep because majority of it doesn't get used, if that makes sense.
If i did become stuck.. i rather let DD run with nature then to put a disposable on her.

We don't have carpet which makes going nappy free that much easier. We have had plenty of wee on the floor, in fact probably every day dd2 will but that's easily cleaned up on lino/tiles. There have only been a few times when she's pooed on the floor - once she had diarrhoea and it was shocking! Every other time I seem to catch her before she gets to it.

Well we have carpet AND tiles and when she is nappy free she has playtime on the tiles... Not that hard. ;)
And back to the OP :D As has already been pointed out, I just can't imagine ever having any reason to buy sposies again! In every situation there is an alternative

DS has been nappy free for the whole afternoon, so far we have had about 15 wees and 2 poos....
Luckily we have tiles....
Hey gremily when you are ECing do you follow your little girl around all the time?? I can never catch DS before the act, im hopeless. He was just sitting next to me as I put a load of nappies in the washing machine and next time I looked down he was splashing in a puddle :o :D
He is so cute!! :p

We started off really well for the first few months, then I got slack. I can't read her wee signal so usually she wee's on the floor and I'll catch her splashing in it:rolleyes:
If (a big if) we have another bub I'll be ECing from the very beginning and trying a whole lot harder. I have more information now than when dd2 was born.

Yeah it must be so hard especially when they are getting around.
Im not fussed about ECing actually but we just like nappy free time and wiping up his "accidents" is just as easy a changing a dirty nappy anyway.

Yep, I wouldn't call what I'm doing ECing - I am in know way communication with her elimination signals! Nappy Free time is brilliant. I only have to imagine what it would be like to ALWAYS wear a nappy 24/7 and understand how wonderful it must be for bubs to have a bare bum:)

If I had tiles or lino I would definetely let him go nappy free lots. But unfortunately our house is carpeted throughout. Although, I am thinking I might wait till after he does a poo and let him go nappy free, that way, he is less likely to poo and it is easy to sponge wee off the carpet if that happens. I get them cleaned anyways!

 That's Bianca to a 'T'! Everytime I get her nappy off for a bath, and go to rinse it (yes, she poops after dinner every night) she crawls after me, and as soon as she hits the tiles...yup, you guessed it, she wee's straight away!!!
I have thought about this. I am so against H now. I wouldn't use a disposable at all now.
The best nappy is no nappy at all imo.
I doubt I would run out of cloth.
For a newborn or younger baby I would consider getting one of the 'nature disposable' nappies. Just for ease and convenience. But I am used to cloth now so can't even imagine using disp now.
