Hey Hubbers

Just wondering anyone is interested in a fabric co-op - I'm willing to be the buyer this round.

Who is interested and in what?

Need some suggestions

Me me me!
PUL, bamboo terry and velour :)

Shanaynay
11-04-2007, 22:38
how do we get velour - i'd be in for that!

from snaps - which is where nix ordered from - the minimum bamboo you can order is 22 meters, so we'd have to have a few interested!

i've checked out the DIY nappy retailers in the bubhub directory, and only snaps had anything good.

there must be more out there though :D

I'm waiting on some procare PUL atm, from NZ. It would be noice to find out where they get it from and buy some. I've toyed with the idea of getting some material laminated myself, but I think the plain block colours from procare are a good safe option.

Velour I can only ever find overseas.

Hey Phineas,

I'd be interested in bamboo velour, PUL and suedecloth. Even microfleece, wool interlock and maiden mills...

The bamboo shop opens in about 3 months, other than that I had no luck finding bamboo in australia. I found some other hemp suppliers, but they were more expensive than snaps.

Velour has been on nappies covered at $15 per half metre but it sold out really quick. Celtic cloth wholesale in usa has bulk on velour, but I don't know what the exchange rate and delivery would mean on the price?

Also, a coop is a lot of time and your upfront money, so it is fine to include a mark up/cut fee. I only chose to keep mine small cause I was in a hurry to get my fabric! But none of us can buy at these prices on our own, so I'm sure we'll all support you and any others who are generous enough to organise a coop.

Anyone else come across some wholesalers in australia?

I haven't made enquiries but I imagine it would be just finding a laminate service who can accomodate ( obviously more of a industrial type mob). If I get around to making enquiries I will Pm you ;)

Somebody on Nappycino is getting round to doing her own laminating - I think she'll be the first in Australia to do it  I think you'll just be able to send her whatever you would like laminated!

for now I'd love some bamboo fleece from snaps,

But I'd really love some PUL or procare, the plain coloured poly stuff. I love having a couple of show off nappies, but I've decided cotton print PUL aren't worth the effort.

I'll be in for PUL. Let me know how you go.:D

I'd also love some bamboo velour if we could source it.

And I'd also be really interested in some malden mills fleece if we could get that in bulk too.

Actually - I'm up for anything:laughing: I really should start sewing what I have now though so that DH doesn't cut off my access to the bank account:o

I have been given an addy for a mob in the US who do PUL by the Yard - Pm me if you want details...

Ive put in an applicaiton to get into a co-op already, but nothing back yet...

On the laminating thing, i have been searching and emailing like mad and havent found anything yet...

Im up for co-op tho! More for the fleece and PUL tho.

The problem with Malden Mills Fleece is the shipping is so damn much, but if we did an order between us it would be a lot less. I have ordered from them by the yard twice and the postage was about $60 US for about 7 yards of fabric

M&M'sMummy
12-04-2007, 13:24
I would be very interested in a Malden Mills and PUL co-op:yes:

I spent 1 week finding someone in Australia to laminate fabric but the expense made it not worthwhile. The cheapest I could get it was $13.50 per metre then the cost of the fabric on top of that so if you wanted bright quilters cottons it would make it up to around $20-$30 per metre

Also they need 30m minimum of each fabric:(

BekkyBoo -ust b careful ofUS co-opsI have recently heard that fabric ordered can take up o a yea to arrive.

re Celtic and their P by the metre - delivery/ postage fees can be worked out at he checkout without proceeding wit the order. Exchange rate i approx 1.25. hen I recetly paid Celtic by credit card it gave me the AUS total. I worked it out that PUL was $16.95/mt including postage, allowing for exchange rate and 1 yard = 0.914m. I asked about wholesale PUL but she only wholesales nappies. There are discounts if you buy 3, 5, or 20 yards of 1 colour.

HTH

Have just bought PUL and Hemp so won't need anything for a while.

Fabrite is the only wholesale laminating company and are based in the US - they do not apparently ship outside the US!

Hi I'm new around here but i'd be interested in some nappy sewing supplies. MM fleece or PUL would be my the top of my wish list.

Maybe you could try Greenbeans in NZ they have different bulk rates and delivery costs from NZ would surely be better than the US.

Two Little Buggalugs
12-04-2007, 21:25
Have you decided what you are interested in cooping this round Phineas? Maybe a poll?

Shanaynay
12-04-2007, 21:53
Well Im up for anything we can get at a good price

If we can't seem to get MM fleece, PUL or bamboo velour, we can just do the bamboo and hemp from snaps again - I need more hemp

Can anyone find anything?

Two Little Buggalugs
13-04-2007, 10:14
What about maiden mills direct? I'll check some of those sewing sites I've been on see if there are any recommendations. I'm sure there are still some hemp and bamboo takers if you wanted to do snaps again too.

Malden Mills store seems to be the best place to get it. They are closing thier IRL store so they can focus on thier internet sales, which should be a lot better since they don't have a lot of Windpro in different colours available by the yard. But just to make it clear when I have ordered it it has averaged at about $30 per yard when you take into consideration the frieight and exchange rate. In my opinion it's totally worth it though it's the best

I have been researching PUL and the best price around is Bubba Earth which is $19.80pm for plain white, It is 220cm wide tho which is 70cm wider than everyone else so works out cheaper over all. I have emailed them to see what priced they will do for bulk orders.

Also, Does the MM fleece have to be Windpro? Cant u use 200wt for AIO's?

Zada
13-04-2007, 13:00
sahra is that the PUL thats $9.90/ 50cm? Im using that atm its different to normal PUL. More like shower curtain material IYKWIM? Im never using it again:no:

Tiny toosh is getting bulk pul $15.50/m soon:thumbsup:

What about you guys get into Aus_coop or whatever it's called? The Yahoo group? As much as I hate yahoo groups, I've been a member for a few months now and while there's a lot of wool jersey etc and other stuff that you mightn't be interested in, they also co-op pul, bamboo/organic cotton and hemp/organic cotton fleece, velour, french terry etc.
Not sure what's on the go just right now, but worth a look

With regards to MM, like Em said (and she knows!), it's better just to get it direct from their online store. It's light so being shipped according to weight is better then by volume. For large quantities air freight through a freight agent works out much cheaper, and it works out to be roughly $140-$200 per roll depending on the density of the fleece (although it would be towards $200 you'd think for Windpro and 300wt). UPS service is about an extra $100 per roll....

KapowSchazam
13-04-2007, 14:31
With MM Fleece, I think you would need two layers if using 200wt, and it doesn't look as nice as Windpro either IMO

13-04-2007, 16:16
Bubba Earth sells larger quantities wholesale. If the coop leader has an ABN then it's much easier to get bulk quantities cheap without going off-shore.

ETA: Jodie at Nappies Covered is just in the process of setting up a wholesale part to her business too..

Sahra,

If you order off celtic, including exchange rate and postage and converting yards to metres it works out $16.95 per metre with postage. It might take longer - am waiting on my order at the moment so will let you all know how long it takes when I get it. Postage costs can be worked out on your cart without finalising it. Conversion is around 1.25 times total cost and whe you pay they tell you the AUS dollars. Havent recieved my order so can't comment on quality or type of PUL.

13-04-2007, 21:27

The Bubba Earth PUL is the same used by Tots bots PUL covers. The laminate is white not clear like others.

The one stop diaper shop in the US sell plain white PUL for $7.15pm for 20-49m which is $8.66AUD. Not sure of the shipping costs yet, I am waiting for them to get back to me. It is 150cm wide too

MCNmummyof2
13-04-2007, 21:51
What are the widths on those fabrics? Does it say?

Think Ill give bubba earth pul a miss in that case!! Was going to use it as an invisible layer of PUL, but dont think it even sounds good enough for that.

I just had a look at the Tiny Toosh site.
Who would be interested in PUL, microfleece, suedecloth?

I'm a little bit apprehensive about doing overseas stuff, that's all :o
But I'd be in it for some MM or something if someone else was the co-opter (is that even a word?) next time?

Foxymoron

When are you expecting it to arrive?

Foxymoron
14-04-2007, 14:17
Apparently it has been dispatched, so it should be this week  .
And yep, have an abn too. If I can get a wholesale order I can probably load it into my shop and give those in the co-op a code to use at checkout. That way it would be safe and traceable- I'm paypal verified  which is even more secure... I advertise here at the hub, so I'm not a likely candidate to rip people off.... What do you think?

Foxymoron
14-04-2007, 15:14

I'm confuddled now
