View Full Version : Tiz hall and settling taking 3 hours
Hi - I started settling my little one using tizzie hall's book today and her afternoon nap took 3 hours to finally get her to sleep. She was due for a feed mid-way so I ended up having to pick her up to do this and then start again. Anyone else tried this and found it took a long long time to get to sleep. She is 14 weeks.

Hi tiger,
I used Tizzies book and found it incredibly helpful.
I think my best piece of advice would be, if she is protesting for that long, get her back up and wait until the next sleep time to put her back down. If she falls asleep before the next sleep time, don't put in her cot (or what ever she sleeps in) but just somewhere else safe and comfy. Then put her back down in her cot again at the next time. She may very well protest again if she's napped in between but she will eventually start to get into the swing of it.
If you only just started to day, I would not get yourself too worried about it at all. It does take a little while. It took my ds months to respond the the dream feed but he was in a beautiful day time routine within a week.
I will really stress though that all babies are different and if after a while you find this routine isn't suited to you and your little girl, then go with your instincts and just do whats right for the two of you.
Good luck. Feel free to PM me if you like.
Cheers, Kathryn
Thanks Kathryn. Day 2 is going much better. I got a 2 hour sleep out of my catnapper this morning. I appreciate the support.

Hi Sharon, I was just thinking about you lol!!
I'm glad to hear day two is going better. I found that each day just got a little easier till one day I realised, Wow, this has actually worked lol!
Connor is 6 months now and though I don't follow the routine rigidly anymore he is still in the same basically routine. If he starts to have a few feral days I just get a bit strict again and he settles down.
My newest challenge is he's now waking through the night again  . So it really is a never ending process lol.
Cheers, Kathryn.
Yes I know. This is my second but number one was a great sleeper so I never had these problems. He'd have bad days of course but then he'd sort himself out. He is two now and trying to give up his daytime nap so I have double trouble. Certainly keeps your mind and body active!! sharon
