Hi all my FIL rang me today to say he wants to help DH and i buy our own home :smiliedance:
Sadly as i am the only one working and self employed we need a bigger deposit apparently as i am female its a problem for some lenders where as if DH was the one earning it we would get the money tommorow, its been a nightmare trying to find a lender!
Anyhow FIL decided to match our deposit so we dont need mortgage insurance, we are looking at buying down the Traralgon/Morwell area, i have lived down there when i was studying but wondering if any mums who live there can tell me what its like for kids :)
So damn excited we can now buy and get a decent size house as we are limited to what we can afford in melbourne as its soo damn expensie, plus latrobe valley puts me central as dad is up east and mums in melbourne!

Yeah, hopefully Grant can get a job around those areas. We can't afford to get a house we're we are in the suburbs so moving out further is the only way to go. My BIL and SIL are also thinking about moving there too.
Im originally from Traralgon, lived there all my life! I liked it there, just decided we needed a change. However to buy a house its such a great family area. You can get a great house for a great price and live in a nice town.
I say go for it!

Cool, how far is Tralalgan and Moe etc from Melbourne? (by car and train)
Ummm..Traralgon is about 150 kms from Melbourne.
To the outskirts of melbourne like Berwick/Narre warren its about an hour. To the city about 1hr 40mins. Its a straight and very easy drive.
Moe is about 20 mins from traralgon (closer to melb) so just minus 20 mins off these times.

Yes your spot on!!
I lived in Newborough until I met hubby and my fam still lives there!! Despite what some say I never had any problems in that area. My mum owns a business in Morwell and my brother just bought his first home in Morwell.. I am jelous as I live in Narre Warren and rent due to the fact that everything is sooo pricey however I would never go back to latrobe valley other than visiting!! I love my life here way too much and have comfort knowing I have a life there and a life here!!

Its good to know its good for kids thats all i was worried about i spent about 4 years there during uni and partying days lol
i guess the fact its got a nice new hospital as well is peice of mind for the kids too and everything is there plus i can do a quick trip down to melbourne to see mum in a day if i feel lonely :) thanks for everyones opinions
just found a nice 4 br with 3 living areas for 145k in morwell whoo hoo :)
Speaking of the hospital, I wish I could fly down there for the birth of this bub. Victorian health system is so much better than QLD. I was born in the old Traralgon Hospital:D

Maybe at least i will know someone if you do, the whole thought of being alone again is freaky!
LOL i have a horrible aunty down there....cant see myself associating with her but its nice to know someone is there family wise if there is an emergency...shes to nasty for my liking which is sad really.
I am excited, thank god for FIL! Its going to be nice to feel secure and get the kids settled for good! At least i know MIL likes me she is the one that suggested it :D

Anyone had there baby in the new hospital down there? Apparently they have 20 beds been reading all about it :) i am scared they wont fit me in i guess thats all
I had my forst son in the new hospital, when it was about 6 months old. It was really nice, like a private hospital.
I also lived in Churchill, Morwell and Traralgon areas for about 6 years. I absolutely would not live there again, I found that it was (huge sweeping generalisation here) but really red-neck, yobbo type place to be. Life seemed to revolve around the pub amd getting drunk as far as social life was concerned.
I spent alot of time driving up and down to melbourne to find interesting things to do as I was so bored. Of course there are some good things, like the rent is cheaper. I also had major concerns about the power stations and the health effects of them, there is so much smog at times and I believe the cancer rate is higher. Of course, some pple loved it down there so I guess I can only speak for myself. It definately is attractive as far as price is concerned though.
