View Full Version : designer/manufacturer needed
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum to ask - but I have a few baby clothing ideas I would love to start pitching to retail stores in the N/Y to see where it takes me - but I need someone to actually make the samples for me - I can't even sew a button on!! Does anyone out there know where I can find a designer or manufacturer of baby clothes? The internet and Yellow Pages aren't much help and the few people I have called have been pretty rude (they probably don't want the competition!!).
Thx in advance...

Just a thought what if you advertised in the paper for a seamstress?
Let us know how you go.
Thx O.M -

Hi
My cousin (who I havent seen in over ten years  has her own childrens label up in Byron Bay but I dont know exactly where you are.
I have always wanted to do this also!
At the moment I just buy bonds T's etc and get them embroidered with different designs/logos and stuff that I design, I just make them for DS and my nephew and friends who have kids. But its alot of fun!
Let us know how you get on,
Sarah
Hi Orlando's Mum!
I'm located in Sydney...and I guess considering you haven't seen your cuz in a long while, there isn't much of a chance in you asking her who she uses???? That's ok - I'll keep hunting around. I'm just sick of not being able to find rompers which have long legs and short sleeves - they're all long sleeves and no legs everywhere I go! I also have some other ideas which don't seem to be on the market so hopefully I have found my niche!
thx for your help anyway...
Sarah:
Where's my O's t-shirt.........
We'll be waiting by the mailbox!;)
~hehe E, yeah Sarah wheres coops and tillys?;) :p
~good luck an2net!! :)
I was looking at this sort of thing when I was looking at working from home ideas but gave it away for all sorts of reasons (my ideas weren't clothes). Anyway - in the process someone suggested talking to TAFE - students or teachers who have the skills might be interested in some extra dollars and bring some ideas to help you on the practical side of things. It could also be worth looking for a mum who is at home who wants to earn a bit of cash so put up a sign at your local child health clinic, or playgroup and see what shows up?
Good luck - I agree that your idea sounds like it is worth exploring!

Let me see what I can do, Im pretty sure she started out doing it her self and then went overseas to get them manufactured, I think, I will ask my Aunty she'll know.
I actually know an old school friend who was brillant at textiles and design, used to design and sew her own dresses etc, let me see if I can find her number as shes in Sydney, or last I heard LOL but Theresa's idea of Tafe students is brillant, dont know why I didnt think of that :D
E and Erin OMG so sending your hand made Orlandosmum originals your way as soon as I can find your address's in my book LOL:D Erin how many kids do you have again? 5? hehehehe

I use a mum I met from a parenting group I belong to to help me out with sewing for my business. It works out really well. You could try an ad in the Classifieds section of a newspaper maybe-your local paper or Sydney's Child maybe...
Hi Gals,
Thanx to all of you for your feedback and great ideas! I didn't realise everyone here was so friendly!! Will let you know how I get on...

you could find a partner - one with the skills you don't have. Save paying money for a seamstress and could help with marketing, etc.
Give TAFE or other design students a go as mentioned above.
