Hey Just woundering where all the dads are chatting

draught
23-12-2005, 13:51
Most of them can't get on the computer because their wives have monopolised it.:p My DH is a member here but doesn't get on much. If you have some specific questions I will hassle him to do his own typing and come on for a chat. He is around a bit over Christmas so I might succeed!

Daddyof2
27-12-2005, 20:37

I got told to join so I could talk to other dads so I wouldn't monopolise our children. We had a great Christmas with my 3 year old only really interested in ripping paper off presents and not really caring what the actual present was.

I know the thread was closed Barry but I just wanted to say that I think you were hardly done by. Although i disagree with your opinion, thats what it is - an opinion and i feel that YOU were the one attacked for having that opinion. Hope it didn't put you off.

*shrugs*

I just don't quite understand why it's not possible to have a conversation without it becoming fanatical, they say they want facts but when facts are provided suddenly it seems as if I'm written off as some sort of lurking nutter who goes around promoting and trying to brainwash people.

I made my choice as a parent and think it's as simple as that, if someone else chooses the same or different that's their choice to make on their own, not be bamboozed into thinking they're the devil's incarnate if they choose one option over another and that the entire western medical system will think they're a crazied lunatic.

I think it's more annoying that the statements were made and the thread closed before I had the ability to reply to their accusations.

Ahh well.

19-02-2006, 20:38

Yeah I think winter is better myself as you can put more clothes on to stay comfy where as in summer there's only so much you can take off before being arrested! ;)

In regards to what KateP posted to me, it's from a different thread where people were a little... shall I say unwelcoming?

I'm okay, just had guests over and am currently cooking dinner, pork chops! yum yum!

Kate, it's still a public forum and we can all see your posts, so maybe a PM would be better if you want to carry on the conversation? A topic was debated. No-one was attacked.

Barry, I'm sorry that you think some of us were unwelcoming. The circumcision debate is a heated one (I was initially surprised to discover that, so perhaps you are too?) and unfortunately people DO come here just to stir it up. Obviously it makes no difference to me what you do to your son but we are all entitled to have and express an opinion. It's not personal. :)

Barry
19-02-2006, 21:05

K No-one was attacked.

Barry, I'm sorry that you think some of us were unwelcoming.

Inferring multiple times that I have an agenda is both unwelcoming and a personal attack.

I fail to see why I am faulted for being knowledgeable. Have you considered that perhaps the reason I know so much about both sides of the debate is because I have done ample research on the matter? I was under the impression this was a forum open to all including those who're intelligent and well-read however it seems it's a bad thing to be knowledgeable.

I'm sorry that you're unable to have a factual conversation without passive-aggressive attacks inferring I'm some sort of pro-circumcision activist spreading propaganda.

cosmic
19-02-2006, 21:19
I came straight out and asked you if you had an agenda Barry and told you my reason for asking.

I can see how it appears to you and have apologised for that. Perhaps in time you will see how it looks from this side and might be able to accept that. Good night.

kimmy
19-02-2006, 21:20
ahhh i see.
well i can say that i am undecided about the whole circumcision thing & i have a 6yrs old so you will not get any crap from me lol but i try to stay away from those topic for this very reason.
Anyway how old is you lil man Barry???
My lil girl is 11mths old.

See, I can overlook that once as a simple mistaken assumption which happens to everyone now and again in all situations in life and yes, you did apologise for it.

However to then infer a second time that I have an agenda after I've already told you I don't and am just a father who has just signed up (which you could have already confirmed by my other posts in other areas if you were concerned about such a thing) is a flat out attack.

To be frank, it's left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

Well there's plenty of information out there on the matter if the time comes when you need to make a choice - you can also talk to your local GP for more information or the hospital. I personally think it's best to make the choice before the child is born however rather than having to "rush" a decision. Each to their own though :)

My little man is about to turn the big one!! We're currently in the midst of sending out invitations to family/friends. We'll be having a combined Blessing Day & Birthday, it should be great - we're already been out shopping for a cute little outfit for him to wear! (We've actually got about 5 as we keeping finding really cute ones!!!).

Well.. i disagree

hOOLEY DOOLEY, some people need to take a chill pill. No wonder threads are closed. I am well aware that this message would have been said. But like everyone else, im entitled to my opinion and in that opinion i felt that you were attacking barry and not allowing him to have the right to be comfortable in his argument. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It is a real shame that some people are put off this site quite frequently when it is meant to be a support unit rather than something that causes undue angst.

I'd have to agree with KateP, if it weren't for the other people in the other threads I've been speaking to being so welcoming I wouldn't have bothered coming back to this site after being attacked for trying to have a conversation about a matter that every parent of a son needs to at some stage consider.

Kate, I think by reading Barry's posts it's fair to say he was not happy with how he feels he was treated and I've said I'm sorry about that more than once. I can also tell you that people using threads like this one (and others) to continually point the finger and have a go at me doesn't make me feel great either. So here we have two people who feel pretty crappy, but you would prefer to perpetuate that situation rather than let it rest, just so that you can have your 2c worth.

Please refrain from carrying on issues from one thread to another, if you have something that bothers you about a particular member, please contact them, or a mod or admin. Please dont use other threads to gossip or to put down other members. It would be a shame to see another thread closed because people cant accept that this is an open forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
For what its worth Barry, those of us that have been here awhile are always suspicious of newcomers who make a beeline for the circ threads, we have seen to many people with an agenda come in and pose as someone they are not to try and get their point across. Please let this rest, Cosmic is a wonderful, kind, well respected member of this forum who openly asked what many others were no doubt thinking and has apologised several times for the confusion. I will now leave you dads to talk about dad stuff. :)

On the plus side, children can be inspired by watching sports on TV, so I guess this in turn encourages less TV watching & more healthy activity!
