View Full Version : Dry Pailing Question
Just a quick question. I use terry clothes when the MCN aren't dry and was just wondering do you dry pail terry flats along with the MCN??? Even if they are poopy?

Sure, chuck them all in together. For just breastfed poo no need to rinse off at all on either MCN's or flats;)
I chuck anything into dry pail that is used as a wee rag. Fitteds, flats, towels, flannels, etc!

It all goes in together here! No need to soak. Napisan- bah. Hate the stuff
Thanks ladies.....I just threw a terry into the bucket with the MCNs this mornng and I thought...hmmmm wonder if you are supposed to do that the old fashioned way. lol. Glad you don't !!
I can't believe how wonderful the sun is at bleaching. As I hung out my poopy nappies I thought, NO WAY is the sun going to get rid of those brown marks.....and later that day when I checked. ALL GONE. :yelclap: . Now that is exciting. YAY.

It's awesome isn't it?? I was the same for ages, got so excited at how clean and bright the sun made them and even dragged DH out to the line to see at one stage :o  Poor man. That's new-cloth-user enthusiasm for you!
I still know people who can't get it into their head that they don't need napisan. They seriously think that the nappy has to be bleached and soaked in poison before it can touch bub's skin again  :banghead:

I was trying to explain dry-pailing to my Mum the other week; since she is from a soaking/napisan era it was very difficult to explain.
How do you explain *HOW* drypailing works??
My Explanation
Wet nappies are put into bucket, pooey nappies are rinsed off first then put into the bucket. The lid is on and all smell is kept inside. In fact, the only time you smell it is if the lid is opened to put another nappy in. Mine is kept in the kitchen and you wouldn't even know there were wet/pooey nappies inside! There is less smell than soaking. Less chemicals aswell.
Once there is enough for a load the nappies are washed. Ta da!

Just to add: Drypailing smells less then soaking because the water draws out the urine.
Many a baby drowned in a bucket in your mum's day too :( - that risk is eliminated with drypailing. Although up inside the laundry trough or on top of the machine is a good place for anything wee-y and pooey that you don't want little fingers getting into of course! :D

Thanks ladies - I know how to dry pail, but I was wondering how you explain to people how it WORKS. As in, what the concept is behind it? Why do the nappies still end up clean when they haven't been soaked etc...

Let them know that UV rays are scientifically proven to be a better sanitiser then napisan.
That's why you see dental and hairdressing equipment sitting in little boxes with a UV light on inside and not in a bucket of napisan :)
That should help to set them straight!
Napisan isn't needed because the sun does all the natural bleaching that washing doesn't do. Napisan was originally used for "chemically treating" nappies to get all those nasty germs out:barf:
Another wonderful marketing ploy by them to pray on the fears of people: nappies can't be clean without chemicals and if your nappies aren't treated then you'll get sick because of all the germs. Great money maker for them:rolleyes:
Maybe ask her what she thinks people used before Napisan.

Thank you! Sorry - I didnt word my thread properly :o
What about when they ask me why they're still clean when I put them in my dryer instead of on the line???
It's really just the detergent and the washing machine that does all the work. Wee doesn't really stain, and poo is usually rinsed off before dry pailing and washes out easily.

Sorry - my family are very anti-cloth and so whenever they ask questions I want to have answers lined up... I just always feel stumped about what to say!
I think it's great to ask questions. Once we are armed with the right answers it makes you more confident in broaching subjects such as cloth nappies, especially with pro-clothies!
