Has anyone tried the cloth prefolds at Kmart? They are only $7 each, but obviously would need a decent cover
You mean the ones made from terry that are fitted with velcro?
I got one just to try it out ( I cant afford all MCN yet) and its not too bad. Just like using a terry flat of course but you don't have to do the folding (I am a terrible folder). I use it for emergencies and only when at home. I also put a fleece liner in it and use a good fleece cover. Works fine (although not as good as MCN of course). I will probably get a few more till I build my stash up.

Are you talking about Fluffies?
As long as you don't expect them to be anything like MCN (and even not as good as a terry-flat when folded well- such as with the Jo Fold) then I guess that they'd be all-riiiight....
But they have just two layers of terry and an inner of non-absorbant foam- keep that in mind. Moisture tends to just run out when this foam is squished- such as anytime when the bubs is sitting. I fold my terry flats so that they have 8 layers in the wet zone. And I got them from an op-shop!
And a snappi is seriously just as easy Velcro and lasts so much better
I'd save my money for better things!
I've never seen prefolds in kmart. They have flats, but they come in packs of 12, or fluffies that are consider to be a fitted but should be banned:D

i have tried them and while they are not as good as mcn or folded terrys they are easier for clueless daddies to use. dh can use cloth when it is easy for him to do it up on a wriggly baby. and it does work out cheaper using cloth.
you can save a minimum of 25 cents every time you use a cloth nappy instead of a disposable - even if you just use a cheap cloth nappy and invest in some good covers. if a kmart nappy cost $7 once you have used it 28 times you have paid for it and saved yourself a packet of sposies  . if the nappy isn't absorbant enough for your bubs get some hemp or bamboo boosters from one of the wahm and just put that inside the nappy. i boost beth's flats when i know she is due for a nap. it works out a little cheaper but i recomend getting good wahm nappies for night times tho.
You can get fluffies (made from flanel) but you can also get terry ones. THe terry ones are the same as using terry flats but they just have the velcro to make it easy, no folding required...

Do you know the brand and the composition/layers of the terry ones Bec?
I know Fluffies makes a terry-outer version of their fitted as well as the flannelette one, but it's still synthetic wadding inside, unless something has changed very recently. They advertise it as "made from 100% cotton terry" - but all that means is that the terry component is 100% cotton, not that the entire nappy is. I've seen quite a few people misled by this phrasing, but they seem to be getting away with it.
Minappis are stuffed with the same sort of wadding ("incontinence material"), as are ezy nappies and some ebay-sold brands.

No one doubts that they are cr@p, but if they get people interested in cloth for a start, how can it be a bad thing?

'Cos people will try them and assume all cloth is cr@p, and run back to their bag of disposables.

For some strange reason I like to think that the purchasers of the above mentioned item would think 'There must be something better than this'.
Call me an optimist.

Unfortunately because they are one of the only MCN available in stores the majority of people assume they are IT. It's wonderful that you think people would search for something better though:)
Think about alot of the posts in here. People talk about how they tried terry flats, hated them so switched to disposables. Obviously they didn't think there was anything better so didn't search.
