View Full Version : walking funny with clothies?
Can I ask a question without getting my head bitten off by all you crazy cloth mummies?
Do you find your little one walks like they'v been riding a horse when they wear the clothies??? I have seen quite a few little kids of late walking, looking so uncomfortable with about half a foot between each foot when they walk because the cloth nappy is so bulky. Swaying from side to side when they walk!:(
Is that normal?

Garrett doesnt 'walk' yet, he crusies and crawls...
The only time he is like this is with his night time nappy... only because its BULKY as!

When I was in hospital popping out Felix, Luka was left in the care of his father... who bought him nappies (sposies) around two sizes too big... Luka was walking like you described for days, hilarious .

DD's in both cloth and disposables... but I haven't found that she walks any different. In nothing else, she actually looks more comfy in cloth... I guess because her bum isn't sweating, and they don't creep up her bottom like disposables seem to do.

the nappies i put hannah in are really no bigger then a disposable, i dont have her in cloth at night so she never has a really thick one on.
to be honest i think hannah feels better in a mcn because it is softer between her legs, she always jumps up and does a little dance after i put one on her :D

I never noticed my kids walked any different in cloth than disposable and disposables have only been around big time for the past 30 ish years and my mothers says none of us had problems walking when we were little and growing up with cloth and they were far bulkier than modern cloth.
The only time I noticed they walked different was with the super boosting for night time
The few times DS has worn a Cloth Nappy, he has walked fine! Although they were too small. Just need to find one big enough for the chubba!

I imagine if Liam ever decides to walk, he will be fine. He doesn't have much added bulk in a MCN nappy. Even when he has a terry on, we use the jo fold which is quite trim.

I think I read somewhere about cloth helping with walking development - I think it would have been based on the child wearing flats though.
I can't remember where I read that though:confused:

DS doesnt walk yet, but his nappies are really quite trim, not much bigger than a disposible.
I have never used a disposible so I cant say for sure, but DS seems very comfy in his cloth.
His night nappy is bulky as it needs to last 14 hrs, but he is only sleeping and never wakes from being uncomfortable.

Double cloth nappies were prescribed in the old days for hip displasia to keep the kids hips in the correct position. They actually help with hip development and future walking.
 DD has the cutest bow in her legs. I'm not too worried though, I'm sure they'll fix themselves.
It's hilarious when I see her walking the same without a nappy on
Hmmm, i dont really use terry flats (old fashioned nappies) but they are a bit bulkier on so maybe that made the toddlers waddle?!?!? MCN is usually quite trim, I haven't noticed a great deal of difference under clothes etc (my cloth bub is only 4 months so not walking yet). hmmmm...anyway, it doesn't really matter. They all walk fine in the end, not so long ago there was no such thing as a sposie.....

Nope haven't really noticed a waddle here, and all 4 of mine have been cloth - only the youngest two in Modern Cloth. Baby K has been crawling since 6mths and it up and cruising around since about 7 1/2 mths and cloth certainly hasn't affected her development.

Nope.
Yep, with the Green Kids nappies she used to walk like that but that's one reason why I only have 2 and only use them of a night! The MCN's DD wears aren't much bigger than a sposie so in those she's never walked funny.
ETA that now she's a toddler and a bit bigger she can wear a GK's without walking funny.

It may have been something like that, that I read;)
I think it might just be a funny walk toddlers do, perhaps a flat nappy might make a little difference to the walking style but a modern cloth wouldn't (night nappies excluded)

Skinny/short legged Ronan here does walk a bit funny in a GK that's stuffed with a Hemparoo and a microfiber- but I think that's what some of you here are referring to as a 'night nappy' . I need that for day with him
Itti's are no probs, of course!

Cloth nappies were apparently better for bubs with "clicky hips". One of the common treatments was to put baby in two cloth napies at once, to force the hips out iykwim. Once disposables became pretty much standrad, the treatment became more medicalised - splints etc - because no one was using the cloth nappies.

Noah walked like that for the first couple of days in cloth because we didn't convert until he was 2 so I guess it just felt wierd. But it was as you described, like he had been riding a horse and had just got off, very funny  But now there is no problem, and it certainly hasn't slowed Lachlan down he will probably be walking by his first birthday, he's been taking a few steps on his own in the last couple of weeks.
I definately know for sure that MCN are sooo much more comfortable than sposies, because I've just switched to cloth myself for AF and it's so comfy
Plus Noah went from tons of creams and rashes to 0 creams and rashes, and from running away from a nappy change to choosing which nappy he wants to wear :smiliedance:

Pheh- DD walks like she has been riding a horse all day whatever the nappy!

My bub looks like a cowboy cloth or not. He has skinny legs so it is very noticeable esp when naked.
I am sure my big kids were the same (they were mostly disposable wearers)
Bub has bow legs - he was born that way and we only changed to cloth at 8mths. He walks fine though and now can run!

I haven't noticed it at all with Ellie. The MCN I use are pretty much the same size as a sposie anyway.
