View Full Version : Flanalette as a pocket stuffer?

Hi there,

I've read in past threads that some pocket users use terry towelling flats to help bulk out their pockets.

Has anyone ever used flanalette flats? Do they work? Are they best used with hemp or microfibre?

I'm very interested in your opinions.

Thanks!

They would work... I have an old flanelette baby blanket that I cut up, hemmed and use as stuffers. If you want it to last longer, or for an older child, you could boost it with some hemp, bamboo or microfibre.

I used flannellette flats for AGES as pocket stuffers. I have heaps of hemp ones now, but still love flannellette flats as stuffers because:

I don't have a dryer and they dry just as fast as the pocket (what's the point of a quick-dry pocket when the insert takes 6 hours in the sun to dry?!)

I don't leave nappies on either child for much longer then one wee anyway- so bamboo and hemp don't really offer any advantage (unless going out etc).

It 'grabs' wee fast- great for my toddler and his power wees :) Doesn't run off the material when it rushes onto it like what sometimes happens with hemp (unless there's microfiber on top within the pocket).

And it is sooo cheap and really makes using MCN more affordable

Oh and I should add that I didn't cut or sew mine at all, just folded them up into a pad shape and shoved it in :)
Made about 10 layers of flannellette.

I folded up a flanalette bunny rug and used it in one of my peapods the other day and it worked a treat. So, all my old bunny rugs are folded into a pad shape ready to go for when the hemp ones aren't dry yet!

I use my old flannel flats as pocket stuffers and as boosters for my fitteds.

I always cut up an old bunny rug and didn't both to hem it and after multiple uses it still hasn't frayed and works fine

ETA: I find teaming a flannel flat and a hemp booster works REALLY well in pockets. I put the flannel on top of the hemp so the wee is absorbed quickly by the flannel and then soaks into the hemp.
