View Full Version : Sterilising bottles
Just wondering how others sterilise bottles.
I have been using Milton, but it seems to be making everything cloudy alot quicker than when I was using it for my sons bottles. I don't know if this is because we live in a different house that is really hot all the time...not that it is cool here anyway...or if it's something else.
Anyway, just wondering what everyone else does. I am considering getting a steam steriliser?
Any thoughts?

Microwave here too. We tried Milton - once. Couldn't tolerate the smell, so we got a steam sterilizer. Love it :)

I too hated milton, the smell yuk and the midwives now say that it kills the bad and the good bugs in the stomache. I have and will always use the advent microwave steriliser. I highly reccomend

I bought a lyndam steam bench top steraliser...everything can fit in it and I love it.
It was alittle dearer than the mircowave one but can fit like 12 bottles in it.
My best thing I ever bought for bubs

Yes once I got a whiff of that smell, I threw out 6 perfectly good bottles and teats and went and bought new ones that hadn't been tainted...

Well as you beaut as this microwave number sounds I do something a bit different to all mentioned
I strongly dislike Milton as I think it is in the poisonous chemicals basket (personal opinion of course)
I also believe that bubbas really need a tiny bit of stuff for their immunity to build up - I am of course most careful with bubbas hygiene but think people can go overboard
Anyway back to the question - I just wash all bottles teats and cups etc in fresh and hot soapy dishwater then pop them into a small bucket with lid on the bench top - I pour boiling water on to them all and leave them sit for a few minutes - bobs your uncle
My next step (out of interest, particularly if you are using formula) - is to refill to 140ml (240ml bottle) with boiled water and pop in the fridge - this is perfect temp once cooled to add to 240ml with boiling water when needed - just right for drinking temp
Blah blah - hope this is helpful - otherwise alot of blah blah - sorry :o

I do use milton but i also have the cheapie microwave steriliser from Big W works well & thats all that matters :)
I also use the avent microwave sterilizer. Very easy to use! :)
Microwave for me too!
I give them a wash with hot water and dishwashing liquid and a bottle brush, especially in the teat and then put them into the microwave steriliser for 4 mins. I have the Avent steriliser......so easy!
I got the avent electric one when I was sterilising bottles. It was great. Easy, quick, fit more bottles than the avent microwave one (or that was then, they may have new ones now). Highly recommend.
