Howdy and happy fertility festival / Easter to you all!
My name is Emma and I am a first year student midwife at the lovely University of South Australia. I am 27, live with my lovely partner, a cat and two housemates in a great house in the eastern suburbs. I work at a local hardware store, am a passionate knitter, sing in a choir and am proud to be moving towards being a great midwife.
As a part of my program, I need to find some women who would allow me the honour and pleasure of following them through their pregnancy. This year, I need 10 to follow from roughly 30 weeks through ante-natal appointments (at least 2), labour and birth if ok with you and your partner, and into the post-natal period. I see my role mainly as support, a sounding board and encourager, and a source of information. In no way will I replace any of your medical professionals or other advisors, and I am of course brand new at all of this so will be learning as I go.
So - I am asking anyone in the Adelaide area to contact me if they or someone they know might like my support in this exciting time! The aim of my following through women in their experience is to gain experience in pregnancy and childbirth so no pregnancy is off-limits to me! In fact - I need experience in all aspects of birth so that when I step out in three years, I will be confident being "with woman", as a true midwife should be.
If you feel you might be interested, please contact me at studentmidwifeATinternodeDOTonDOTnet if you have any questions. I also have a pdf brochure that I can send you with extra information.
Emma
P.S. As I'm new to all of this, I am still figuring out what kind of midwife I want to be. But - mostly, I have faith that women can birth babes naturally into this world with minimal interference and a lot of support. My favourite quote is: "We have a secret in our culture, it's not that birth is painful, it's that women are strong".
