Hey there,
Little dude started rolling from his back to his tummy just last week, and since the moment he learned he has been practising like crazy.
Just today, whilst on his tummy, he started to lift his butt off from the floor, and then his head, but not both at the same time.
I am just curious to know if this means he is about to crawl, or if this butt lifting stage will last for a long time before the next stage.
Little dude is 5 months old.

I dont think it will be long before he is moving around, maybe not crawling as such...
My DS was just over 5 months when he started comando crawling.. Now he is 7 months old and is starting to get up on the knees as well but hasn't quite got the crawling happening yet (falls on his faces when he tries to move as he lifts his feet instead of knees)..
All the best and merry christmas
Sounds like hes getting quite active! It may be a while till he crawls yet but you never know, they are all different and some take ages rocking on their knees for weeks (like mine did) and some just get up and go......

Tee hee, I like the idea of commando crawling! I hadn't thought of it like that, I just had it in mind that they would either go nowhere or do a full on crawl.
Thanks a lot for your input and merry christmas to you too.

Sounds like the little guy is very active hehehe watch out !!!!!
One bubs who was born a day earlier than mine at my mothers group was crawling when she was 5 or 6mths was crazy & her mum keeps wanting to swap with me hehehe cause she now cruises & has done for a few months !!!! My bubs still does the commando type crawl, the caterpillar type crawl (as i like to call it as he looks like one) or the oooh i can use one foot to push me off & as the floor is shiny enough being floorboards i can make it across the room in one go crawl heheh.
He is a lazy bugger but then with the way he gets around in his walker im quite happy for him to be slower crawling !!!! Oh how he gets into everything !!!!
Lucky you sounds like your gonna have your hands full !!!!

My bub is 8months old and one of the early starters, which was exciting for about a day!!!!
He rolled at 4months both ways, and used to do that bum in the air thing too for a few weeks, then he got up on all fours and rocked, then 2weeks after he crawled (at 6months).
It's hard to say, he might advance in leaps and bounds or stay content with where he is at now for awhile. All I can say is the longer they're immobile the better.
I can't eat my dinner or sit down for 2 seconds with out my son getting into something. People think it's funny when I tell them, but it can be very exhausting after a day of running around after him.
At the moment it's the Xmas tree which gets pulled down at least twice a day!
Good luck with your wee guy, he sounds very enthusiatstic. He might be trouble soon! ( Xav's nickname at the mo is "Trouble")

I think it's different with each bubs. Will (4 year old) was crawling at 5 months! He's really determined though. Tyler is 8 1/2 months and he's just starting. He rolled for about 6 weeks, now he's trying really hard at the crawling - manages to get both head and butt off the ground, but he can't really move anywhere after that. He just stays in 'puppy pose' and grins wildly - very proud of himself!:D
