how can I learn to knit?

Hi guys, anyone know where or how I can learn to knit!??I have no idea even where to start and the concept of knitting anything but one continuous strand that doesn't end up 10 foot long bewilders me lol so any websites? or packs I can buy? thanks!

I can knit but only basics as in a scarf :o
Hoop if you know anything that could help me learn how to follow a pattern to make, say, gorgeous longies :D
