My hubby and I have been trying only for a few months now for bub number 1.

We are both excited and im very clucky and going to the shops can be a nightmare as i try to avoid buying any baby clothes, toys etc!

im very excited and keen to start collecting but afraid if we cant fall pregnant that it will be very hard for me to get rid of the things i have bought...

any advice anyone???

ps....sorry if i have posted this twice, page kept timing out!

Hunny, don't feel silly about doing this, I mean really it is expected  !I mean another reason to shop, HELLO :D ! Yes before we got our BFP I had already bought some things, mainly clothes, couldn't help myself it was like a disease.......

But that bub of yours will come, so if it makes you happy, then buy something! and good luck for your pending BFP! :smiliedance:

and now for the alternative, 180 version.....

I don't mean to be cynical...It's just very hard.

Every single time I bought something before my babies were born I miscarried within days of the stuff arriving. Like far enough if it happens once it's just bad luck but my last 3 miscarriages I bought things before twelve weeks and miscarried every time :gloomy:

this time I am not buying anything until they are born.

Yep hubby and i bought heaps of things whilst TTC especially if they were on sale.

We had a cot and change table, months before our BFP, it cant hurt to be too prepared i say.

Gives you more than the 9 months to rush out and buy things. If you aren't too keen on that, at least put some money aside each week in a "baby account" towards things when you are preg.

Good luck and heres some baby dust for ya :wizard:

I like the suggestion TJ said of putting money aside for the baby account. I couldn't help myself though, i had a cot, pram, highchair all on laybuy, then my DH ended up in a coma and on life support, thankfully he made it through and we conceived 4 months later. I was really upset (after his accident) and thought i may aswell cancel the laybuy as he might not make it and that would just devastate me. But anyways, anything could happen, so i would just buy only little things and put money aside for the big things.

And goodluck TTC!!

Hey Ladies thanks for your input!

the baby account sounds like a great idea! I might do that to start off with, then i can spend crazy when i do get my bfp!

Hi,
DH and I purchased a heap of clothes at the end of season sales last year, we also went to the Queen Victoria market yesterday and bought a plate cup and bowl set for our future bub and a pair of Tickle me (Elmo) socks as DH is a Elmo fan and we got what we think is our :bfp: today, not too sure if its a coincidence or anything but I say go for it!

My DH is killing himself laughing at me at the moment cause I have been buying not for the bub to be but for me !!!!

We have heaps of baby stuff from DD now 16 months old, but I on the other hand have very little maternity clothes from my fist PG as I worked all the way through, so this time as i am at home I am going to need some nice new clothes, only one problem with all this shopping...I am still TTC #2....LOL....

congratulations auntka!

you are encouraging me to go shopping ladies!

sounds like lots of fun...

can someone give me a rundown on the sizes? is 000 for new borns? when would most bubs be a 00? or 0?

Im still learning a lot! better now than later i guess!

It all depends on the size of your bub but most start off in 0000 which is new born (my DD was a 0000000 and at 16 months is still in 00-0, she is a little petite:p ).

3- 6 months is 000
6- 9 months is 00
9-12 months is 0

But once again this is just a guide, as i said my little girl is on the small side so I take more notice of the height and wieght gides than the actual size.

i am ttc#2 and i must say, i like the idea of buying just a few little things and putting away money so when i am preg with #2 i can go do a big fun shop at the sales. in saying that, i was buying bubba clothes at the sales when i was 15 and have stacks of new cute stuff. i was getting new stuff for $1 a piece so i had to. a lot fo it got used as gifts when other people had bubs aswell though.

i say dont go to nuts but enjoy a little bit.

I am ttc# 2 (have been for 5 years) as well and i have been buying things for awhile. I bought a cute cot quilt and matching sheet set the other day as i thought that i had to get it as it might not be around by the time that i finally do get pregnant. What you buy now will save you money and you wont have to fork out a lump sum in those 9 months when you are pregnant. What you don't use you can always give to people as gifts - there is never a shortage of someone having a baby. Good luck!

i have been ttc for 6 months now, and now i am on clomid....

I am a professional shopper! (at babies galore)
I thought i was just such a weirdo because i have everything worked out from the colour of the nursery to the sheets, pram, cot, EVERYTHING!
I do go out any buy clothes...i dont think it has anything to do with miscarriges. (sorry lj) i think they call that a horrible, heart breaking experience that no one should ever go through.
My girlfriend had 11 miscarriges before she got her :bfp: and never bought a thing or told anyone except her hubby...
but thank you for starting this thread. i dont feel so pathetic now for buying clothes, or even making a quilt!!!!!

Hi guys, Dh and i are trying for our first bub and i haven't bought one thing yet!
I have been tempted though! Awhile ago I was going to walk down the baby section of coles and start buying little items every week, but as i was about to walk into that section, i felt really nervous, so wierd and i backed out right away, it was an unusual feeling like it wasnt right...
I will wait until out BFP, and i know for sure my that mum and mother in law will go baby shopping crazy too.

We were TTC for quite some time, and I brought at least 1 bubba thing every cycle.

When I got my BFN's, I donated my purchase to the Op shop. I had Brought a Beany the Month I got my BFP Its soooo nice to be able to keep it!!! and it helped give my Bubba its in- utero name:D

While I was TTC, those bubba things I brought, gave me a great way to grieve the unsuccessful cycles.

I have been TTC #1 for 20 months with no luck. I have avoided buying anything as I didnt want to jinx myself.

Resently I realised how silly this is as its been so long anyway! I have resolved to buy things now when I see things I love and not worry so much about it. If I make plans for my baby then surely they will show up soon!

I'm On to 17 months of TTC and ive been buying little things when i see them. Most recently i brought a cot i was a bit worried about buying it but the way i look at it is.Im going to have a baby so why not get stuff before its here then theres no stress on me during the pregnancy.
Goodluck

I am glad you asked this question. I have been avoiding it too. I am at a stage where I really want to but am worried that it will stress me out seeing all the things I buy. I think I will start to buy a few things. My mum has been making thing from little outfits, cot sheets and also buying books for when they get older. I have half made a blanket to put on the ground when bub is out an about. I guess I will finish that when I am actually pg.

All the best with TTC. I think we should both go out and buy some small things.

My sister-in-law has decided not to have any more kids while I am still trying for my first. Her little girl is 2 today, so I have inherrited a cot, change table, baby bouncer, bath, monitor and a rocking chair. They are now stored in the spare room (hopefully the nursery). I felt a bit silly having them all before I am pregnant, but at least I don't have to stress about getting the big items once I am pregnant.

My mum always walks me through the baby stuff while we are shopping, I think she wants to start buying things so much.

I guess it will happen eventually so why not get it when we see the stuff we like. :)

I've enjoyed following this thread... and after what has happened before, I think I'll be trying to keep the past in the past. Concentrating on the future

With a little hint of caution (not my usuall style!)., I like the idea of the baby account and putting money aside for a big shopping spree (that sounds really cool) I think that I'll be making sure I don't buy a thing until getting the all clear from my FS that it's a viable pregnancy.

When I was pregnant with DS I was spending straight away didn't even think that I wouldn't go to term, I just knew it would. It's a shame that I can't have that same naievity back again. Maybe this next time will change that.

thanks for the thread...it's being great

cant wait, I'd buy from 0000 up. I know with some kids they can stay in a 00 until 12 months.
I lay by'd a few 0000 singlets (three i think). Also on the bubs I have looked after it doesnt matter if they have 000 a little big is ok. I'd buy about 5 0000 jumpsuits then once your little one is born, go from there.
Go rank with 00's tho! LOL

thats 5 size 0000 jumpsuits not 50000 jumpsuits.
