View Full Version : Cloth Wipes ... how do you store them and in what?

I've had a bit of a look (ie a 'daddy' look, not a 'mummy' look :p ... slack I know!) to see how everyone that uses cloth wipes stores/keeps them - and I remember seeing something AGES ago about this, but can't find what I'm looking for.
I was going to put ours in a container (maybe even a disposable wipes one like Huggies) ... but not sure what to fill it with - if anything but water. I'm thinking it's a hassle to have to keep wetting one each nappy change considering where the bathroom is to DS's room.
So really what I'm asking is ... do you keep them in a 'solution' of anything or just some water to keep them damp ... if it's a 'solution' what do you use?
Thanks all you clothie gurus :D

I get a Huggies container and fill it with:
Water from the kettle
A splash of olive oil to help the wipe glide over bubs butt
A few squirts of sorbelene cream to moisturise
And a squirt of scented baby bath wash for a bit of soapyness and to smell nice.
But I'd rather not use the baby bath stuff so when it runs out I might put camomile tea in it... I believe this smells nice or something?
I just have a little bowl of water on the changetable... I wet each wipe as I go, that way it doesn't go slimy. When I go out, I pre wet the wipes and then put them in a disposable wipes travel pack.
Sometimes I will use camomile tea...
I actually just have a stack of face washers on the change table and an old huggies container of water(i also just put the tiniest little squirt of baby bath wash in it) beside the change table and wet it as I go.
i was going to ask about this too! :)
we are moving onto MCNs at the moment and i want to also use cloth wipes, do you just throw them in the nappy bucket? thanks.

I just keep clean dry face washers in a plastic container thingy and spray each one as I need with boiled water and a teeny bit of baby wash stuff from a normal spray bottle...

Rinse the same as the nappy if pooped on and chuck em in!
ETA: I actually only use the wipe if she's wet (ie morning) or pooped.

I just wet mine as I go, but you could try a drink bottle filled with water (and something nice, like chamomile tea or a tiny drop of lovely essential oil) and wet each wipe as you need it! I used to put 6 wipes in a Huggies Box and put boiled water in it but it used to go stinky:thumbsdown: so I stopped doing that and just leave the container full of dry cloth wipes and wet them as I need them.
But most of the time we just grab face washers from the bathroom and wet them there on the way to the change table- we have wayyyyyy too many face washers :o a case of overjealous pregnancy buying
And I just pop them in the nappy and chuck it all in the nappy bucket, and wash them all together. Never had a problem with them, and they always come out nice and clean

I have an old pump pack that used to contain sorbolene cream and I have that filled with water, occasionally I fill it with chamomile tea but have only been using water lately as there is no rash anyway. My pile of cloth wipes are just kept dry on the side of the change table and I wet as I go.
For outings I have my drink bottle clipped to the nappy bag and it has just water in it for me to drink or to wet the wipes.
They all just go straight in the nappy bucket too and poop once get a quick rinse as I rinse the poop before it goes into the machine

Great - thanks for all your replies :D. I might try a spray bottle or pump pack (have a few of these hanging around) and wet as I go.

I like that spray bottle idea!
Every couple of days I top up the Huggies tub with dry wipes and pour some boiled water over the top- doesn't seem to go stinky or anything if I'm doing it every couple of days:thumbsup:
