OK for a girl: Myfanwy

Pronounced muh-VARN-wee

But we would call her Myf (Miff) or Myffy .

Too strange?

I just think it's cute (plus I love Myf off JJJ).

Thoughts??

How Welsh!

Love Welsh names! Going for Gaelic ones myself (I speak Gaelic). Everyone thinks they're weird but stuff 'em!

Cool! Go for it!

"my fanny" .... i didn't think of that , thanks KB (no seriously, thank you LOL I don't like teasing)

The mis=pronunciation, yeah my Grandma's best friend was Myfanwy and she got called Fawny her whole life....

DAMN I liked Myf for a name... LOL there's always something wrong with the one's I like!!! Maybe just "Miffy" on the birth certificate....??

LOL, nothing wrong with Fanny, had a great aunt with that name!
For me, any name that you have to pronounce for everyone is no good. Having a German last name that no one can say is bad enough!:o

oh, and Belinda, thank you!! I like Welsh and Gaelic names too, my husband's family are all Scottish and Irish, and my Grandmothers family were Irish. So I'm liking those kinds of names at the moment. I like Eithne (pronounced Enya) but yeah yeah I know, Enya.......

Yeah actually our last name is a pig to pronounce and spell too.... so maybe I'll go with something simple like JANE or MARY

(actually, Vallerie's choice at the moment is Rosemaria or Sophie.... perhaps we should let her name the baby!!!)

Look around - you'll find something similar.

Mwynen - mwin-in - my gentle one
Morwyn - mor-win - great queen
Meredydd - mer-id-ith - great lord
Meredyth - as above
Maiwen - my-win - beautiful May

Tried to stick to Welsh names with similar sounds. Hope it helps :) I got these out of a book called 'Celtic names for children'.

Well Vallerie is quite, erm, creative when she's naming her imaginary friends.... she comes out with:

Lazzy
Mozzo
Kizzy
Chozzo

LOL what a little aussie bogan hey LOL

But this "Rosemaria" she's stuck with for months now..... I do like Maria for a girl. Wait, I've got to try it like this:

VALLERIE AND MARIA GET OUT OF THAT MUD PUDDLE!!!!

Hmmm doesn't sound that bad really! Maria Rose perhaps.....

Of course, I've gotten boy vibes this whole pregnancy so I'll have to come up with Boys names too.... I like Brian, Nicholas, and Darcy.

oh Belinda YOU ROCK :D I had tons of baby name books when I was pregnant with Vallerie... can't find them now, I'm sure they're here somewhere, under a pile of crap in the spare room probably!! I just choose names I like off the credits of my favourite TV shows LOL.......

But I really like Meredyth! I think that is a very nice name... and it goes nicely with Vallerie too. Our surname has one syllable so we need a longer-ish first name.

Meredyth. I've seen it spelt Meredith too. Someone on TV is called Meredith, aren't they? Oh on Gray's Anatomy! Yeah I do really like that name!!!! Belinda, thank you!!!

If you like Miffy - call her that!
Meredyth/Meredith that is nice and goes well with Vallerie too.

I like the name Myfanwy but only since I learnt how to prononce it ;)

There is an announcer on triple J called Myfanwy Worhurst but she has shortened it and just calls herself Myf.

Myf is a cool name. Like that!

That's the first thing I thought of too when I saw the name even in the heading.

As for Miffy I think of that white rabbit book - sorry.

I too like welsh names but Myfanwy is not the one.

I love the suggestion of Meredyth!

Miffy reminds me of the rabbit show too, though is a cute nickname still!

I always thought that Myfanwy was pronounced 'miffany', like 'tiffany'. That chick on triple j pronouces her name miffany. I know a girl called Miffany (not sure how she spells it, but that's how it's pronounced) and she gets called Miff for short.

I used to work with a girl called Myfwynny, she always got Myf or Myffy. I'm not sure of the origin or meaning though.

Maybe this could be an alternative?

Good Luck! :D

Myfanwy ... Hmmmm - I like the name, but like others didn't know how to spell or pronounce it for a very long time. Most of the population outside of Wales or Britain would be the same I'd say.

I used to work with a girl named Myfanwy and whilst people referred to her in conversation as Myf, when she introduced herself in person or over the phone it was always in full. As a result, every single phone conversation she had where she needed to leave details, and I mean every one, she had to spell and say her name at least three times.

Then again ... I have to as well and my name's not that unusual. Maybe it doesn't matter what you call their child they'll be spelling their name forever ???

Please, even I have to spell "E R I N" :o And often get called Aaron - no im a girl you dronk, not just a 12yo boy calling womens health clinic! C'mon!

Names should be whatever the parent wants... I just always made sure there was no room for teasing it... kids these days tho are VERY creative

But thanks for the thread, i never knew how to pronounce that!

Sorry, I thought My Fanny as well. Miffy is great, and if that's what you would call her anyway, why not just name her that to start with. I'm Katie, but Dad didn't like Katherine, so on my birthcertificate, it's just Katie. Meredith is lovely however, if you need a longer first name.

Good luck!

I have a friend named Meredith and known as Mera for short .... I think that it is a very pretty name and will suit a child as a little one and an adult.

As for Miffy ... great nickname, just a little "bunny like":p
