View Full Version : Blood Pressure a little high
Just had an appointment with midwife and she said my blood pressure was a little high....the top one. I read 140/70 she said the 70 is fine but the 140 is a little high. Does anyone know what this really means?? She asked if I had been running around this morning....but who can avoid the shops at this time of year?? I didnt overdo it..she said to try and take it easy
140 isn't high in my book. My normal BP is 120/70 and the same when I'm pg. It really depends on what yours normally is, and what it is in several readings over a period of time. The only time mine went up in pregnancy was when my best friend was hospitalised around the time I was due. Running around at Christmas would put mine up for sure and I bet you're the same! A one-off reading doesn't mean anything much so relax, you're fine :)

140 is a little high. They are more concerned with the lower one (diastolic) during pregnancy though :)
Take it easy!

I agree with mummycloud, they usually worry about the bottom number. It has to be high for a few appointments before they are concerned anyways, as it might have just been a one time thing (like xmas stress and running around). Take it easy and dont worry to much until they do.
I wouldn't be worried ... they really are more concerned over the lower number and yours is absolutely textbook!
My usual bp is 124/65 (even though I am obese) and it is all over the place when I am pg. With my dd it was high from the beginning and I was on medication to bring it down. This wasn't needed all pg and I was off tablets towards the end. With my ds my bp got really high for a week and then proceeded to remain very low!
If you are concerned, just try to rest as much as possible, avoid any extra stresses and spend time thinking about what a wonderful new life that is growing in secret within you and the joy that you will feel in being able to hold bub in your arms and reaffirm all of the love you have spoken over bub in-utero! Take time to read some books about something that has always interested you and you have never had the time to look into before ... this may be the best chance taht you ever have to do it!
