My 7yr old DD is allergic to eggs and nuts.
Therefore we are very restricted on what chocolate she can have as many of you would be aware.
Well as she is in grade 1 at school the Easter Bunny comes to the class.
Well stupid teacher didnt check the chocolates or ask me for any input!
Just as well I approached teacher and asked if easter bunny WAS coming this year...
Had to tell teacher to not let DD have chocolate until I checked it. Which was just as well as it was not one that DD could have :banghead:
So my DD missed out yet again!!
Why cant these teachers check with the parent or at least read the labels!!!

Hi Tammy:wave:
My DD also has egg and nut allergies and although I hope she outgrows them, I do worry about it when the time comes for her to go to school.
You would think that teachers especially would be a bit more aware these days.

In regards to you hoping that your DD will outgrow her allergies I was told that if they hadnt outgrown them by the time they are 5 that they will have them for life.
I dont know how true it is but I will ask again when we go for more testing this year.
DD gets tested every 18mths to 2yrs.
Yes one would expect teacher's to be a little bit better in checking these things out.
In the past I have been asked to either check items or purchase a separate item for DD to have. But this year nothing until I asked!!

My daughters school has a no nut policy that includes chocolate, in cooking classes they even cater for a girl who cannot eat eggs. Her school before this didnt do this though i think that as horrible as it sounds, something bad has to happen or the principle is given enough interest before implementing it.
DS kinder is the same too, no chocolate, no nuts, anything as such like that.
Some teachers/schools arent aware of these things, but its something that i find is common among most playgroups etc now so fingers crossed it goes across the board soon particulary for kids that arent really at an age to determine if they might be allergic to it.

I am a teacher and while im not going to defend the teacher not checking the chocolate, what i have always done is send the chocolate baskets or whatever the children have made with the eggs- so there is no chocolate consumed at school- then it is the parents decision whether or not they give it to them.... if they throw them out- no harm, if they choose to eat them- thats fine too.
But i also have an allergies list visible on my desk so that i know which children i need to check with parents first and which children cant have other things....
Hope that may have given you a different perspective....
Some of us are conscious!!

The teacher didnt seem to be phased at when I spoke with her.
I just thought it wouldnt have hurt her to ask her BEFORE giving it to my DD.
She has an action plan near her desk.
Looks like I'll have to do another safe food list for DD....
