I didn't realise this thread was here so I will post my birth story now .................. My original due date was 24/03/07 & on Friday 09/03/07 my Ob decided to induce me the following week as we thought she was quite a big baby, I was sick & uncomfortable & having pains 'down there' & very happy to have a date! Ella was already 3/5 engaged & internal revealed my cervix hadn't even started softening let alone dilating like we thought ......... I was booked in to go to the hospital at about 8pm on Wed 14/03/07 to have the gel inserted. The plan was to have that done to 'ripen' cervix & then in the morning my waters would be broken & she'd be hopefully born Thursday ......... 7am Thursday morning I was taken a couple of rooms up to the birthing suite & the doctor came in and gave me (a VERY painful internal). Nothing had happened at all so I couldn't have my waters broken. The Ob inserted a cathetar (sp?) into cervix which had 'balloons' & they inserted fluid to inflate these balloons to get me dilating. The plan was this would drop out on it's own once dilated to a few cm's .......... Contractions came on stronger & stronger, closer & closer. I found swaying my hips while leaning on the raised bed helped a lot (as with complaining I can't do this anymore!) ......... I can't even remember exact times as it is all a bit of a blur but around 11am or 12 noon I had another internal as cathetar hadn't dropped out. He removed it (ouch!) and I had dilated 2cm. Nothing more happened & he couldn't break my waters yet. I was given the epidural & the drip around 1pm. I couldn't feel the contractions but could feel my legs. We watched tv all afternoon & chatted to DH, mum & midwife! Lol ............ I had another internal around 4pm (the drip had been on the highest it could go & I was having strong contractions close together) which still hurt a lot & I still hadn't dilated more than the initial 2cm. He broke my waters & we decided to go ahead with a c/s at 5.30pm ......... I was fine with this decision as I had been half expecting it basically from when I was a teenager & found out my mother had the same problems as I did with not dilating & having a c/s however she had a very long labour & I didn't want to waste say 48 hours of natural labour & then have to have a c/s anyway & I was just happy that I would be meeting our little girl so soon! .......... I'd already had the epi (I hadn't had any other drugs prior to this even though I thought the pain of contractions would kill me!) so they put the stronger drug in (I was shaking so much!). The anaethetist was wonderful & talking to me the whole time as with DH & DH was looking in the light's reflection saying they hadn't started yet & after a couple of seconds I realised they had. The only bit of pain I felt was the pressure on my pelvis or bladder where her head had been engaged ........ The screen was pulled down & I saw our beautiful princess for the first time & I have never felt like I did at that moment ever before! ..... Ella was taken over to the nearby table to be examined & pee'd on the paediatrician & DH cut the cord. (Oh & apparently they had to prize her fingers of the suction cord when they pulled her out! Lol). I then got a nurse & we took photos all while they were stitching me up. She stopped crying as soon as I held her & I couldn't believe how beautiful our little Ella Rose was. Perfect! ......... Was taken to recovery & she fed a little bit. She was extremely alert & even when she first heard DH's voice she looked straight at him & we think this is cos he always talked to my stomach & she recognised his voice ....... I can't believe how much we love this little person or that we created such a beautiful little being ........ (PS Def booking straight in for a c/s next time!) ... ELLA ROSE, 3500g (7lb 12oz), 53cm long, 35cm head circ, born at 5.44pm on 15/03/2007.
