DH and I really need a couple of days away not far from syndey and have never been to the Hunter Valley. We'd love to check it out but would have to take our 10 month old DS (other kids can stay with Granny). Is there any point - is it really a place just for couples?

Hmmm... I always go there with DH and go on tours of winery's. I have seen lots of families at the gardens though.

Kids are most definitely welcome at most wineries
We've taken our DDs quite a few times.

There is also Port Stephens where they have a lovely bay and dolphin cruises.

And historic Morpeth is an awesome little village with SO much to look at. DO NOT take a stroller there though, it's impossible to get into the shops!

Also in Maitland the annual steam train festival is on this month if you are interested at all in Steam Trains. You can even go on an hour journey on a steam train.

Also if you are there on the first Sunday of a month there are Maitland Markets which are really popular markets.

There is a fair bit to do but you do need to drive between places a fair bit. Worth it if youve never been
