View Full Version : Do you keep old baby clothes?

I have old baby clothes everywhere. Most of it is 000 summer / 00 winter gear and I don't know if I should hang onto it or not. I'm tempted to keep all of it but if I have another bub, he/she may be born in the wrong season and none of it would fit anyway.

What did you do with your baby clothes?

I kept most of Kaiden's. Thank goodness I'm having another boy and he is due 10 days after K's bday, so in the same season :D

i've kept DS...only because i thought i'd keep them until we'd have another baby. we're having another baby now and since its a girl i will be gettin rid of them sometime in the future. by either selling or giving away to friends etc.

i am going to hold on to some pieces of clothing though for sentimental value.....:D

I kept them until I knew i wasn't ahving anymore. I have just given them to a friend who is having a boys in 3 weeks and is due the same season as my children,.

It feels so good to see them on another child, and know that they have come to good use. Especially because they aren't very well off

I've kept (after ALL these years!) a few very special items. A dress I knitted (for you knitters it was 167 stitches in 3 ply and that was just the front!!) which she was dedicated in. Also a couple of dresses that were smocked ones - very special. Also a shawl and outfit my mum knitted. I would suggest keeping their first shoes (if the condition is ok!) as my mum kept mine and they are adorable. Kids like seeing how small they must have been to fit into such small clothes too. When I had my first, mum got out the 'layette' my grandma had knitted for me! It was amazing to see it (very fragile!) In those days, they knitted vests, dress (yes even for boys!) bonnet, mits, booties.....no wonder we have so much time on our hands:rolleyes:  (Just kidding!)

ooh, that sounds good, how do you do that?

We feel obliged to keep all of ours because we are planning a few more kids so will need them. It's a pain though to find place to store them. I've been toying with the idea of selling/giving them away and starting new with each baby, it's a big expense though..

I voted other as I've kept a few favourite outfits for each DD & DS to look back on, but give away or sold all their other stuff.

I kept everything :o
Even when I found out our second one was a boy I still couldn't part with any of DD's crateloads of stuff.
I've carefully packed away everything DS is outgrowing as well.
A few weeks back in "a moment" I sold 4 of his newborn suits to a girl on another board and I cried when I put them in the post how sad am I

I'll part with it all one day but not yet ;)

I voted for other. I've kept some of ones I loved the most and have given away the rest.

I have never sold any, even though we struggle week to week, I know there are people out there who need clothes desperately. I either give them to friends with younger bubs, or give them to charity. A friend is going to India in a couple of months and will take bags of clothes.

Plus, the majority of dd1 and dd2's clothes have been given to us (handmedown's) so I feel it's the circle of life.

I have kept all of DD's clothes because I hope to have another baby and also because I feel too sentimental about them.

I know at some stage I will have to part with them by either selling them or giving them away but I'm not ready yet.

I will also keep all the items like her 'coming home' outfit and her first booties ect.

I have a big moving box for each size, full of babies and kids clothing :o I have a few special outfits (not precious special, just outfits that really remind me of their newborn days) put aside in their "special memories" boxes, but apart from that I'm keeping all the clothes for when I have more kids. If I have more kids. I hope I have more!! I'm such a hoarder, I always think "oh what if I give them all away, and then meet the man of my dreams and have more children"

I have kept a majority of his clothes, 'just in case' and for the simple fact that he has so many clothes most of them are like brand new, so why give them away...selfish I know...

But some I have given to someone who really needed them, as they were left with nothing after a tragedy....

I am a hoarder with kids clothing. I just don't want to part with a lot of it.
I have a feeling I will have 2 more boys and all the baby girl stuff will just sit in the box. I love looking at my first baby' stuff though.
I am at the point now that I can't buy any more clothing (or anything for that matter) - our house is just too small and 3 kids have way too much stuff and they don't stop growing.
I will have to sell some of it. Some stuff I have been slowly giving away. I will keep some of it. I will keep the first cardigan I knitted my girl (still proud of it :D) Wont keep all that I knitted - just too much.

I've got all mine. They are in boxes everywhere. I was like 'okay, I will use these for Taliyah' but just end up buying Taliyah all new clothes instead of using Summer's old ones. They just bring back so many memories and I can't have the heart to sell them. I sell ones that people gave me & I didn't like though

No more babies for us....so I've been selling my really good baby clothes on ebay and give the rest away on freecycle.

I kept DDs in a big packing box for years... well the ones that stayed in good condition. Lugged them from house to house. Then when we moved interstate I decided to get rid of them, but I gave all the ones with extra special sentimental value to my mum and she made a patchwork quilt out of them. Nice keepsake.

I'm only saving those special ones of DS this time.

I get there special clothes eg: naming ceremony, home from hospital outfit. Dry cleaned and boxed for when they are older maybe there kids can use them.

When i am finished having kids if i have no friends that are still having kids to give the clothes to i will give them to the salvos

DD is 19mths old and I still have all of her clothes from birth, with a few exceptions that I have given away. I'm expecting no2 so I figured it was worth keeping in case I have another girl. Once we've finished having babies, I will keep a couple of our fave outfits as keepsakes and sell the rest or give away.

I kept B clothes that were in good condition and were particular faves. A was born in a different season but is bigger, so has worn alot of the stuff.
I like seeing her in clothes that her big sister wore over 10 years ago.
I will definately be keeping the faves of A's clothes because we plan on having 2 more.

I only keep the really nice and expensive clothes or things that have memories attached to them like the outfit she came home from the hospital in.
Clothes have also gone full circle, from my little sister to DD1 to my niece back to DD2.
At the moment Ive lent some of DD2s outfits to a fellow bubhubbian for her lil girl. Seems a waste otherwise!
Sometimes when DD2 is wearing clothes that DD1 wore 5 years ago DD1 feels like a little queen because 'those were mine aye mummy?'

This is a decision that was only finalised yesterday but we won't be having anymore, so yesterday I pulled out all of his clothes yesterday and have washed, pressed and sorted through them all.

For a lot of them, I have contacted a girl on BH who needs clothes for disadvantaged/homeless mum's in Melb so hopefully I can give them to her. They are mostly the vital things that little babies need - singlets, socks, growsuits etc.

Some stuff, I will try and sell for a token amount here - they are the clothes that I have loved (and I was a bit of a brand snob when Sax was little) and would love them to go to another BH member.

Then I have a Timberland jacket and Fred Bare jeans, both in mint condition and the mercenary side of me wants to recoup something on eBay - I feel terrible about that though.

Careful, I did this, only to have to go out and buy baby stuff all over again. Not once, but twice, lol.

I'd keep them. Never know but the next bub might use them :)

My aunt actually kept my cousin's clothes and they got used by her granddaughter.

One day my mom gave me this body suit that was made of a thin towel-like material to put on DD (who was 3months old then...she's 7mnths now). I thought she bought it for her. I was shocked to learn that it used to be mine! :)

I haven't voted...

I have the dihemma of not knowing what to do...

Her old things are packed and ready to go on eBay - we really need the money, but I'm TTC#2 so don't know whether to part with them or not...

I was going to pull out my fav outfit from each size and keep them...

Supposed to be giving the neutrals to a friend who is due in July - right size, right season, but I'm not ready to part with anything yet...

I voted other, I have given away most baby clothes since having DS2, but I have kept alot of my fave outfits from both kids. I still have everything that we bought in a size 1 and bigger.

Now I'm having baby boy #3 and I wish I'd kept more of the baby clothes LOL, I still have a fair bit though, from when I had DS1(same season, DS2 was a summer bub).

If I was planning on other children I would keep them.

We actually got rid of all our baby stuff because we were 'done'. However DD had other ideas. Now we are!!!

I sent some to a friend in Ireland. The rest I have boxed up for another friend.

I have kept first bootees and sleep suits for all children as a memory!!!
