Hi Girls,

I'm new to this forum but I need some advice before I speak to my (new) GP this week.

This is my situation...

I have always had irregular periods but didn't think too much about it - as it wasn't a big issue.

We conceived my little boy a year after coming off contraception, it wasn't planned. He just happened to come along and surprise us :D

Since having him...We were trying for about 6mths and I saw a GP who said 'sometimes these things just happen'. I had an ultra sound and it showed nothing irregular. Now we have been trying for a year but I have only had 4 periods in 20mths. Yep, I should have seen someone earlier but I the first GP put me off and I thought it was just my body taking a while to get itself sorted.

We are going to see my new GP this week, who is absolutely brilliant, will she be able to prescribe something to get my period regular and so we can TTC baby 2? or will I need to get a referral to a specialist for something?

Thanks in advance!
Crystal :)

Hi Bluepoppy
Welcome to the threads and TTC #2...there are a few threads that you can join and start meeting some cycle buddies too.

With regard the GP...now I have a lot of respect for the ol'GP they are your first port of call when you have a probelm. They are great with most things, flues&colds, injections, blood tests (general), and that sort of thing....but as the name suggests, they are a general practictioner. They don't specialise in anything.

But when it comes to anything gynocological, there is only one person I'd see and one person I'd trust and that is your gyno. Even it is to see what the prob is and how it can be treated - gyno.
I'd be asking for a refferral straight away for him to assess the situation.

Hi Bluepoppy, yes I agree you need to see a new doctor. Like LJ said you need to see a FS specialist to do more comprehensive investigation. Your GP may send you for a BT and DH for a SA first and you take those to FS who will then probably get more tests done.
