Has anyone bought a toddler bed  or did you go for a BIG bed.

What type and how did your littly go, how old were they when they moved from the cot?

All of mine went straight to a single bed. I can't see the point in spending $200+ on a bed that they will only be in for a year or 2, only to spend another $200+ on a single bed.

I moved Jacob at 10mths, Brooke at 12mths and Matthew at 7mths. I'll be moving Troy at around 7-8mths too.

DS is 18.5 months and has just moved into a big bed (King Single).

He is going really well, goes to bed no worries and sleeps so much better then he did in the cot! :D

my son has a love n care toddler bed and went into it at two. Its great but not cheap. Its worth it if your going to have more kids, thats the only reason i did as i have a baby that can use it when he groes out of it. My 5yr old can fit in the toddler bed aswell

we converted the boys cots into toddler beds with the use of a few DIY Bunnings supplies  Couldn't afford 2 toddler beds, and 2 single beds won't fit in their room, and they're too young for bunks yet.

So we just took the sides off their cots and strengthened all sides with steel brackets. Solid as a post!

They LOVE their little beds.... and since we got the safety rail that you can fold down so you can sit on the bed (we got the 'childcare' brand one) they have slept like rocks (the first week was hard as we didn't have the rails yet and they kept rolling onto the floor

I think it made the transition easier too, as all the bedding was familiar, the look of the bed was familiar and we could leave their room in the same arrangement. Once they grow out of them, they'll go into bunks.

I've seen a step 2 like little tykes car bed, you know like those yellow cars that they can drive around only it is a bed. It is second hand $220, we have our own cot mattress. I think it would be cool.

DD has gone straight into a big bed. For me it was a waste of money, as I didn't see the point of having to spend more money later down the track. I am a bit of a tight a$$

I put Isabel in a big single bed at 14 months (her cot broke when we moved), but its like one of those car beds with the sides and the shelf at the back only it has butterflys on it, so its safe but also a big bed, i think there great they retail for a bit ($699 with matress) but if you look around you can fine one cheap  i picked mine up for $350. carltonkidsbeds.com u can ask where they stock them (the holden one is mad!) sorry but if i had a boy thats the bed he would get.

I had the same view, I just didnt see the point, Jaxon went into his when he was 11 months or so, actually think it was earlier than that...as he hated being in a cot:confused:

Anyway, he has no problems getting in and out of it, I bought a guard rail for it, and he is fine....we have had some sleep problems, but that was because he formed a fear of the 'dark'......

Single bed here skipped the toddler bed

Don't you have problems with your little one getting out of bed?! My son is in a cot, he does alright in it, we have to sit there until he goes to sleep :o but that doesn't usually take long. When he wakes, he usually screeches and hates it. I was wondering whether maybe if he went into a little bed, there would be some way of getting him off to sleep without him climbing out constantly, and when he wakes up - would he just be able to totter out himself? He's 15 months old.

I've never had that problem, I often wonder if it's because I moved them when they were so young??
My 2yr old even lies there awake waiting for permission to get up after a sleep. :banghead: It's annoying because I have to go and check on him every 15mins so he doesn't have to lie there forever waiting to get up.

At 1 dd started refusing to sleep in her cot so we tried a toddler bed ($160 from Babies Galore, same cot mattress fits). Instantly she was better. Definitely not a waste of money for us, as when its time to move her into a big bed (which we'll make a big event), the baby will take the toddler bed. So all up we'll get around 4 years of use from it. Maybe more if we go to a third.
And then I'll give it away or sell it on ebay.
I think they are better if you move your child into a bed early, if I was only moving her at 2 then I would have gone straight to a big bed.

I dont think its a waste of money. I think they are fabolous! When DS was out of his cot I went out and purchased the Ikea bed(longer then the cot mattress thats for sure) and it was great until i got him a nice proper bed.

DD1 will be getting a princess low to the floor bed.Kind of like those car racing ones.. I'm sooo jealous because DP is going to get her a canopy as well for it, and thats what i wanted! :p

My Ds is in a toddler has been for about 2 months or so now. We have a King Single for him, but DP and i both agreed that the king single was too high and he is a restless sleeper.
The toddler bed is excellent. Ds absolutely loves it as he can get on and of it without any problems.
We got our toddler bed brand new for $199 and it is defintly worth every cent.
My sister is 3 and is still in her toddler bed, so they can be used fo while

Mr Chicken is coming up 15 months, and he's still in his cot. I don't plan on getting him a toddler bed - i think it's a waste of money, but it does work for some people.

I've always wondered about how on earth I'd keep him in his ROOM once he moves into a big bed...?

I bought the step 2 (like little tykes) car bed on Ebay :smiliedance: decided it would be fun for DS as it has a roof we can turn it into a cubby as well, like the canopy thingo that ikea do. I loved the ikea toddler beds but at $400 + mattress was a bit too much plus you can't get it delivered :o
