Heya :)

My husband changed jobs recently and his pay is lower than it used to be. Do I have to ring centrelink or someone to tell them his pay is now lower so they can adjust our family tax payments?

Sometimes if you overestimate your income you get a top up at the end of the financial year which can be pretty handy. But if you need the money now ringing them may increase your fortnightly payment.

I think the concern is more if your income goes up, because then you have a debt with them that needs to be paid back.

Yep - any pay adjustments 'should' be reported to Centrelink to avoid any overpayments or underpayments. But if you're happy to keep at the same rate they're paying you, they can just continue that payment and then backpay you what you're owed once you're lodged your tax returns.

If it has gone lower, I tend to leave it, just in case the situation changes again, then you do have some extra $$$ up your sleeves. But is really up to you.

Depending on what his income is, check that you arent entitled to more support - ie. parenting payment, heath care care (income under $40,000pa - if his income change will mean you will be earning less than 40,000 this financial year, tell centrelink, cause then you are entitled to a health care card!)

Thanks for the replies ladies :)

I guess I'll ring them cause I think it does push us under 40k. Cheers!
