Hi Ladies,
We've been TTC for about 18 months now and have finally decided we need a little help. Both hubby and I have had tests and there seems to be no reason we can't conceive so our doctor has recommended we do Intrauterine Insemination (or artificial insemination as it's also known!).
Just wondering if anyone has tried this or heard of anyone else that has, and if so whether it worked?
Thanks,
Raz

I haven't myself, though it was something we were looking into after 2 years TTC, but I do know that IUI is a pretty common first step into ART as it relativily painfree and non-invasive (ha, as painfree and non-invasive as a cathetar can be!) and cheap to perform compared to IVF and the other more intense ART's.
Did some googling though and found some informative sites, so I hope they help. Good luck and baby dust!

Well I had approx 5 iui attempts my 5th being my first ever positive pregnancy test after 2 yrs ttc and I have a beautiful, blonde, blue-eyed princess!!!
It was stressful, as ttc is anyway. I had to have internal ultrasounds, bloodtests, injectibles, and the insemination is nothing it is over in seconds. Basically insert a syringe and push the plunger and away it goes.
We had so many as I didn't fall 1st attempt, didn't respond next, I was unsuccessful next, they started me on Metformin as well and I got too many follicles to iui (so cancelled), but adjusted metformin and got it right and BFP with that. So I guess sometimes it also can take some fine tuning depending on your situation. GOODLUCK with it.
I did two rounds of IUI. Both were natural cycles (no drugs as I O on my own). Both BFN so we have now moved onto IVF because of my age (37). The natural cycles are good as they are relative low intervention, no drugs, low stress. But the sucess rates are also pretty low .... around 15% ....
My FS suggested trying IUI first as we were 'unexplained' with a possible little bit of mild male factor. He said its a good way to start out rather than rushing in with the IVF big guns. Apparently that's the policy of my clinic. However I know that other big clinics such as SydneyIVF only rarely do IUIs due to the low success rate. The argument apparently is that it takes three rounds of IUI to get the same success rate as IVF
Hope that helps

Thanks for your replies Mummasbubbas and Kali. I ovulate naturally (like a champion according to my doc!) so am trying IUI without drugs first, hopefully it won't be too stressful!
We have unexplained fertility too and are both healthy, ready and raring to go so fingers crossed :fingerscrossed: IUI will work for us. I am a little disheartened by the low success rates but am glad it's worked for at least a few people - anything's worth a try I think.
Thanks ladies.:)
