For the last week MJ has started a very annoying, painful habit. While i'm feeding her she pushes on my breast, stretching it & causing me so much pain  So much so that they are petty much sore all the time. She's also not attaching properly alot of the time
Anyone know what i can do? I've got some lansinoh (sp?) would that help?
Thanks
RB
Ouch! Is she trying to up your supply? Testing out new teeth? Sounds painful  Are you taking her off immediately and saying "Gentle" or something like it? That's not a habit I'd want to continue. Some milk rubbed into your nipples at the end of a feed will fix any grazes but pre-emptive action is really needed to stop her doing it. Healing vibes to your boobies ~*~*~*~*~

I've tried taking her off but then she just gets annoyed cause she's hungry :( No teeth......yet. We've had 2 come right through then go back down & that was months ago. Don't know about supply but she has stopped sleeping through & is waking through the night, but thanks to your advice, co-sleeping is working. She rolls into our bed around 1am & stays there till morning. So cute waking up to her smiles.
But anyway, back on topic....she even does it in her sleep. I've tried holding her hand but she's so strong. Its like she's trying to pull it out & suck at the same time
If she is trying to up the supply is there anything other than feeding her more that i can do? She refuses to eat if she's not hungry & will sit there and scream

Ouch.........my girl has just started doing the exact same thing as MJ. I too have tried talking to her but to no avail. The only thing I find helps is to hold her hand away from the boob, but that sometimes turns into a bit of a struggle and she justs starts pulling away with my poor nipple in her mouth. She has also been feeding a bit more than usual and I put it down to a growth spurt. Who knows??
Lansinoh is good stuff and should help the sore nipples, good luck.
My son got annoyed when I took him off too but since he was biting the boob that fed him, I just wasn't prepared to put up with it, yk? In the long run it's better and safer all round. I didn't shout at him, although if he bites down and I don't see it coming I do let out a big shriek inadvertantly and that stops him midmunch... She might have teeth shifting about so her mouth feels funny, or she might just like the feel of stretching the nipple as a fun thing to do. If she's not feeding any more than usual she might just be experimenting with how the bite/stretch changes the way the milk comes out. I'm glad the cosleeping's going great. I wouldn't have survived without it LOL.
Maybe a bit more taking her off will help stop the habit? If she realises that the action has the logical consequence of the booby going away, she'll stop pretty quickly.

Thanks Janet - I might also have to give that go. She only does it towards the end of the feed and I though that she may have been doing it because she was looking for a bit more so I let her go (naughty).
She is another one who slept really well at night but has been waking and wanting more so I just let her go. I am sure she would suck all day if I let her.

Thanks Janet :) what we do without you.
Sopoli, MJ is the same. Some days i dont bother clipping my maternity bra back up as I know she's going to want it again soon  How old is your little girl?
RB
O did the same thing! Really weird and sore!!
I just took him off and also tried to distract his attention from it to the plastic clip on my bra which seemed to work.
Good luck, I feel your pain!

RB -she is about 15 weeks. Sad, but by baby numero tre you lose the exact count!! The problem I have with co-sleeping is that it is one big long continual suck and it is just so tiring.
I keep meaning to PM you - will do so before Chrissie.

Hey,
I was scrolling through the posts when I saw this one RB - I have the same problem with little dude *ouch*
He "grabs" at my breast with his free hand and either pushes it away or scrunches his hand up and it really hurts. He also gets distracted and will look around while feeding - and take my nipple with him!
I can't hold his hand either - he is too strong and it makes him angry!
He is five months now and I thought we were going really well with BF, but honestly, it sometimes feels as though he is trying to suction cup my nipples off!
Sopoli, little dude is feeding more often now too, so I think that you are right about the growth spurt.
I love BF, but my poor boobs are being stretched beyond their limits :p
Tee hee, that is a joke - do you get it?!

I get the joke he he.
I can also relate to the grabbing of the boob. Nothing can distract this girl from the boob either - so I am at a loss to what to suggest or do myself.
I think the hot weather has something to do with it also - hot and thirsty - more feeding.
Maybe it is just a stage that will pass. Let's Hope!!
Babies like to snack on the boob when it's hot so they get more of the lighter milk at the start of the feed. How clever is that?! :)

OOh, I had this problem where DS would scrunch and pull the skin on my breasts too and I resorted to using the newborn scratch mittens again which I found worked rather well. It was probably an odd thing to see a 9 month old with scratch mittens on but it saved me alot of pain, especially when I was feeding DS out and about.:)
O'smum, Chloe does that to me all the time it really hurt hay.
Ooh it really does dosn't it.
