ok, is there anywhere that would explain step by step how to knit one yourself? and what wool?

I did some knitting as a kid, and think it would come back to me, where it fails is how do I start, how do I get the wool onto the needles lol, cant remember that part, and also what sort of wool to pick...

this site has been a great help to me. In fact ive taught myself to knit from it as well as asking qs on here.

I am 1/3 of the way through some gorgeous longies, rather chuffed with myself.
