Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone out there who is a non-vaxer would consider having the cervical cancer immunisation themselves? (Not if you would vaccinate your child with this later on)
I know why I have chosen not to immunise my son, but lately I have been wondering about this cervical cancer vaccine for myself and whether its benefits outweigh its risks? I haven't looked into it in-depth yet, I just wonder...
I know you have to be under 27 years old etc etc but even if you aren't eligible I'd like some feedback on what you consider- would you have it yourself even tho you don't vax your child/ren?
(ps I don't vax my child JFYI)

No,my DD wont be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease....when /i first heard about it, we considered it (for down the track obviously ) , not really understanding that it doesnt actually i mmunise against "cancer" but against the virus that can lead to it.
Still interested in hearing more about it from others though.
It's the human Papilloma virus it protects against, which is genital warts. It can lead to cancer, not necessarily though. So no i won't be getting my DD if i had one vaxxed for that either.

I mean really as an adult would you consider having the vaccine?

Oh...no:no: Not me, same reasons
Nope, if you are in a committed relationship and you have been tested for STD's and have regular pap tests they should pick up any signs so as an adult no i wouldn't. This vaccine doesn't provide protection against Cancer, just the HPV virus which can lead to cancer. Heck i personally think all these vaccinations are giving people cancer in the first place. But that's just my opinion.

Yep yep, I'm a bit suss on them all, especially as how I remember the signs on the back of toilet doors asking for guinea pigs for the trial of the vax a few years ago, and now it's supposed to be fine and safe.
How do they know it doesn't cause cancer, heck how do they know it doesn't pose any problems a few years down the track?

do you have one sexual partner amber??
if so it really isnt going to help you out much.
it should be given before you are sexually active or before you contract hpv...the way i see it is...if you have one sexual partner and you already have hpv its not going to do anything.
if you have one sexual partner and you dont have hpv then chances are you are not going to get it at all...unless you begin a new sexual relationship.

These are all the same Q's i have, No i wont be having the Vacc and No my DD probably wont be having the Vacc either.
My main questions are:
1. In 10 years is the same vax still valid and doing the same job?
2. Is getting the vax going to GIVE DD these viruses in 10-20 years?
3. How can they prove what it does? Can they prove that the trials were done ONLY on women who would have contracted 7 out of the 10 HPV that it supposedly vaxs against?
4. If I get the other 3, and I am immunised, does it mean that I can't get the cancer?
5. Have they tested it long enough to KNOW that there is no long term damage - cancer, infertility, other problems??
This also is a concern for me...as i am aware that less and less males are being circed.
Off the subject a little: Did some searching the other night about Jewish women and Cervical Cancer...They have obviously proven somehow that there is no link...but i find it a HUGE conicidence that Cervical Cancer is/was basically non existent within the Jewish community that Circ.
I was advised that one way females can get the viruses is from un-circed males...
P.S Not meaning to be disrespectful of mummies choices to not have their beautiful boys done...just something im looking into, as i have to make a decision in a couple of months, in re: to this!

I'll be getting it and Charlotte is immunised.
I have had CIN2 and I was interested enough in it to go and ask my doc about whether I should have it and she said no I don't need to firstly because I have already had CIN2 so my body has already been exposed and will now be relatively immune to most and the other is that I am married and she only recommends it if I planned on leaving my husband and started dating again. As for my daughter we want to want to see if the suggestions of infertility are founded before I will consider it.

Thankyou everyone who posted so far!
I was looking into it last night as I had a convo with a friend who is a non-vaxer but getting it done. Mainly because the website says:
HPV is very common – it affects men and women, and 4 out of 5 people will have it at some point in their lifetime. The virus lives on the skin, so it can be spread through intimate skin-to-skin contact. That means women can still get it even if they practice safe sex, or only ever have one sexual partner. Usually the body clears the virus by itself but in some cases cervical cancer can develop.
How accurate is this? I don't know what to believe anymore *sigh* but so far I can't see myself getting it done. Although the bit as above sounds scary but may just be a tactic?!?
And yes, only one sexual partner. Not the swinging type:laughing: ROFL
due to the, albeit minute, chance of infertility i will not vax myself until I am done with child-bearing.
I am, however, pro-vax.

Er I didn't yet know of the chance of infertility as a result of this vax!
My god, a vax for young girls that holds a chance of infertility!! What!! Isn't it already hard enough for most people to conceive??
I belive the chance is very minute.. but I don't even want a 1 in 100000000000000000000000000 chance.

It does bother me that many non-vaxers assume that all people who vax don't bother to research, it really does.

I never assume!
But then again it goes the other way. Lots of people think non-vaxers are lazy or miseducated!
I won't be getting it (even if i could) until I have thoroughly researched into it. Neither will my daughter. I have a few years up my sleeve with her.

Me too
Charlotte's dad is extremely against vax, so we had to look at every side from every single angle in every light. It was a hard choice to make, but i think i have made the right choice so far.
