View Full Version : how much breastmilk should he be drinking?

I just started to express my milk and i was surprised at how much he drinks. He drank a 125ml bottle. Is this normal? I thought it was heaps. He's just over 4 weeks old. Is this the average? How much does your bub drink?

I have no idea because DD drinks straight from the breast.

Maybe he's drinking more because it's in a bottle?:confused:

Sounds like he is a big drinker! The baby I look after (Phoenix will only bf, not drink ebm) will drink 200ml of ebm at a time and she is 6 months. But having said that, it may be that it flows out faster in a bottle than it would from your breast so your babe might just be drinking more from a bottle for that reason. Or maybe he has that much from your breasts usually and it's normal for him!

Breastfed babies drink till they are full so I wouldn't worry about him having too much, whatever he has is fine.:thumbsup: Unless he is vomiting afterwards, it's fine!

Yep, totally agree.

When you take DS in for his 6 week check, just run it by them just to be sure. If you are still having conserns before then you can always take DS into the chemist, they usually have a nurse in some days of the week who should be able to help.

Dont stress over it tho, sounds like your son is doing great:thumbsup:

I also have no idea because my bubs wont even take the bottle WITH breast milk in it. Although she does not take any more milk when she is full so I don't think you have anything to worry about!

My DS is 8 months old and at daycare he drinks about 100mls of EBM at a time.

Some days only 80mls. He doesn't drink much during the day but from 5pm onwards he feeds from me almost constantly till about 8pm. I think he prefers boob but will drink from the bottle if he is really hungry, but only enough to cover his hunger and that's it.
