View Full Version : IUI / artificial insemination
Hi there,
I wud love to here any success stories or lack of success with IUI.. We are on our second go and our FS said we can have one more go IUI then go onto IVF.. I just want to know what others have experienced. Thanks
Hey
hubby and i had 1 shot with IUI, and it was :bfn:
we were meant to have a 2nd cycle however i produced too many eggs so we had 2 options, either do nothing for that cycle or go with IVF.
We went with the IVF, and fell pregnant on the first round.
Wishing you all the very best!!!!
Hope your bubba is just around the corner
is there a limit? I was thinking about artificial insemination with a donor, just them popping the spermies in, is that what you are having?
Yeah i have injections then get scan and if i get 2 follicles or less they pop spermies in.. first go unsuccessful:gloomy: - so im going again now.. but thinking i should go with IVF after this one.. not sure so confusing!!!
Thanks Tj - i'm thinking i might ask FS if i can do it next month... did you have injections? Also did you find IVF process alot worse? Etc and Congrats on Pregnancy x x
well good luck with it all :hugs: :)
Yep i did have the injections
First cycle was clomid and it worked fine - got 1 folicle.
the 2nd cycle clomid didnt do anything so i went on the injections for about 3 weeks (was a nightmare) trying to get the eggs to start developing, and then they went BAM and were happening too quickly.
For me the IVF journey wasnt really all that bad, i didnt have much time to think about it really.
I went in for a scan one day waiting to hear about how many mature folicles there were, and was expecting the IUI a day or so later.
And thats when i was told it was IVF or nothing, so i really only had 2 days to digest what was about to happen.
IVF really isnt as scary as what i thought it was, its actually quite simple for you as the patient, just perseverance with the injections basically.
Definitely ask your FS about it, weigh up the costs, if i were you i prob wouldnt do another round of IUI but go onto IVF, the up front costs are alot more with IVF, but by the time you get money back from medicare and private health there isnt much of a difference.
and Emevity - i dont think there is really a limit with the number of times they will do IUI on you (depends what the fertility prob is i suppose) i think my FS said we would do about 5 or 6, and then would look at IVF is still unsucessful.
But if you have more than 2 mature folicles they will not do the IUI as the risk of multiples is mich higher
whats the chance of two or more follicles?
whats the chance of two or more follicles?
are you meaning normally or whilst being on fertility drugs?
Normally its not common.
with fertility drugs it depends on what type of drug you are having and the dose of the drug.
the FS will try and match the dose to your condition.
With Clomid (a tablet) they normally start you on a low dose, so i wouldnt think the chances of more than 2 matre folicles would be high.
When on the injections its a different story its basically the hard core version of the tablet, does the same thing and stimulates the folicles to actually develop and mature.
Either way a FS would most likely closely monitor your cycle, i know i was in seeing mine every 3rd day for a few weeks and having internal u/s to check the progress
hope this helps
thank you. sorry to hijack atlast
Emevity - my Fs said 3 goes IUI then IVF... I don't know if this is silly but for me it was a good stepping stone to IVF?? Well i think it will be as i was so scared about both and now i feel more comfy:yes:
I am on Puregon, Ovidrel then pregnyl..
Hey TJ one more question what is a mature folicle??.. Mine were 16 mm on each side?? I don't really know what this means i did ask FS, but sometimes they are in such a hurry they don't really answer the question:mad:
:fingerscrossed::bfp:so I don't have to worry!! Thanks to both of you for replying
I cant remember exactly, but im pretty sure "mature" is 20mm..... dont quote me 100% on that, but im 85% sure its 20mm.
I was only on the Puergon injections.
If you can do IUI with injections, you can do IVF, there is only 2 steps that are different.
The egg pick up - where you are under a general, and they remove the eggs.
You generally wait 2 days for the to fertilize and then go on to mature (this is the longest wait, waiting for the phone call saying that "x" amount have matured and are suitable to be transfered back into the womb)
you then go in and have them transfered back in, this is done in EXACTLY the same way as the IUI, however you need to lay on the bed just a little but longer while they check the tube and syringe under a microscope to make sure that the fertilized eggs are in side you and not still in the tube.
All in all that part would be no longer than 5 minutes with your knickers off.
Then onto the dreaded 2ww!!!!
:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: heres some baby dust to help you on your way!!!
Thankyou thankyou thankyou:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:
