I had a huge episiotomy with my first, and it took a good 6 weeks to heal, and feel comfortable, but if you are worried, maybe get it checked out ,just to make sure there is no infection...

Hey, Bec! Congrats on the arrival of your little one.

As anything, it can vary greatly for everyone. I had a 3rd degree tear, and took about 5 months to heal .. I would expect my case to be of the extreme end though. I also haemmoraghed (sp) and had to go into theatre to fix that and they had to redo my stitches as a result - I'm sure they weren't the most gentle they could be and a lot would have been bruising I felt.

As a result of the tear, I had a rather 'large' episiotomy with my second labour last year, to avoid similar results, and I honestly would not have known the next day ... I was completely pain free - breast feeding was more painful!

I really hope you recover soon - if you are at all concerned speak with your Ob or MCN. :hugs:

Hi!

I had a thrid degree tear with my baby. I didn't even kno until the doctor came in to discuss surgery. Afterwards it was ok, a bit sore and swollen, it took a few weeks to heal.

Although i did end up with scar tissue damage, i am having physio to help as i had scar tissue damage, i am currently having ultrasounds on the area to help with the discomfort. However its not pain its more discomfort.

I am sure you will heal fine, if you do have scar tissue damage there is treatment available that are great and quick to help with the annoying discomfort.

Sorry if i have made you worried, however these treatments are great! Its just like having ultrasounds on a sports injury!

Good Luck, I am sure you will heal in no time!!
