Does and OPK work as a HPT????

Ok girls, can you help me!! I am on day 21 of my cycle which NORMALLY lasts 28 days so I thought I ovulated last weekend. Well, today I have been have some middle pain etc and thought I spotted some EWCM WTF!!! So, last week I brought some OPK's off EBAY as I had heard they are ok and a lot cheaper than most places. I did a test around 3 days ago just to see what would come up and nothing did. Just the control line then an evap line a lot later. As I had been having pains today I thought I would do anther to see what would come up and I have two VERY dark lines. The second line is almost darker than the control line!! Could I be ovulating now or do they show up positive if you are pregnant as well??? I am so confused!! Thought my cycles were 28 days but maybe not, or maybe I am pregnant!! HELP!!! Thanks in advance.....

They test for different hormones, so it will only show up if you are ovulating....

Cycles can often vary in length for different reasons, and you can ovulate at different times in your cycle too....

So my cycle this time must be longer!!! Hmmm, am night shift tonight so might have to DB now LOL!! Sorry TMI!!! Couldn't believe how fast the line came up, it was about 2 seconds and BAM there it was. It is now SO much darker than the control line!! Looks like I will be testing later than I thought this month!!

they do work has HPT though, it did for me once AF was due, i was using them, and they were positive :yes:

Hmmm... there you go then... I just googled it and found out that yes, they can be used, however not as reliable (obviously) as HPT....
OPK's detect LH (luteinizing hormone) which is the hormone associated with ovulation. Pregnancy tests detect hCG, the hormone associated with pregnancy. LH and hCG are, at a molecular level, nearly identical.
Well, you just might be preggers then!!

I tried 2 as a hpt and it worked both came up really dark and quick. Maybe get a preg test and see how you go or you could be O'ing.

Its how I knew I was pregnant. I did 4 opks as was still working out when to use them and had a bleed early on. Turns out I was pregnant.

Hi Ziggyzena,

I am so tentative about doing a HPT in case I do it too early and then end up with a chemical pregnancy and it end up as a miscarriage again. I am REALLY wanting to know but my OB said for me to try to wait until after AF is due so I don't get too disappointed. I also did a digital OPK and the little smiley face came up that tell you that you have detected a surge so I really think that I ovulated late, or even twice if that is possible in one cycle!! And the pain in my left ovary!!! I cannot tell you how bad it was. I have never experienced ovulation pains that bad. Was sore to touch that side for about 2 days afterwards!!!

I really want a :bfp: this month even though it is our first month of trying since my D&C in January!! Please keep your fingers crossed for me!! Thanks so much for all your support!

:hugs: Hey i get horrible pains all through my cycle now don't know whats going on i have af now and my left side is just ouch but not af cramps its kinda wierd feeling in the ovary similar to your describing> When is your af due??

Going by thinking I ovulated on the weekend, I think I AF is due on the 14th April. Originally thought it was the 8th but after thinking I ovulated late I am changing it.

Did you say you have AF now?

yeh they came 3 days early this cycle and 5 days early last cycle. Due to go and see my gyno on the 18th. see what he thinks all the strange pains are! I have always been 30 day cycle don't even think i o this month going by ff chart i didn't have a consistant temp rise i had fertile cm though weird hey:confused:

That is wierd. I have never attempted to do my temps as I work 12 hour day/night shifts and have been told that it wouldn't work. I always thought I had a 28 day 'normal' cycle, but going by this one and when I ovulated it will be a 35 day cycle. Maybe since my D&C it has changed, who knows.

I am sure your gyno will be able to help you with your pain. Maybe you might have a cyst on your ovary or something and that is why you might not of ovulated that cycle and this would cause pain. If it is something like that, it can be treated with medication and in most cases they go away on their own so would be nothing to worry about. Sheesh, being female sucks sometimes. Ovaries, AF, ovulation, temps.....if men had to deal with all that stuff there would be no babies at all LOL!!
