You could try lucas pawpaw ointment. Whenever my ds has nappy rash it clears it up in a few hours, because its nice and thick it should make a barrier on his skin.
Hope that helps and his is feeling better soon:p
bepathan (sp) is useless for me DP once he gets the rash, so we just use paw paw ointment to clear it up. works really well. clears most of it up within a day or two.
oops. kristyk beat me too it..lol

I agree with the other ladies, smear heaps of paw paw ointment on it, really lather it on and coat it or you can also use Am-o-Lin which will do the same thing and it has almond in it which is very soothing for them but you have to put heaps on.
My DD has a really bad rash at the moment with her teething and it is taking ages this time to clear up and i cant leave her nappy off because she scratches it and rips at it till it bleeds.
Your also best not to bathe him in any body washes that contain any chemicals at all, it will only inflame the area just leave it alone all together and clean the area with alcohol and fragrance FREE wipes. I found woolies select brand wipes the best for the nappy rashes.I also only use the wipes when she poos and a damp warm washer for her wee's when she has a nappy rash.
curash and sudocream always worked well with us, and nappy free time, keep it dry if you can for a bit...
Sudocream works well in our house.
Once Hugh had really bad nappy rash and I was alternating nappy changes using Sudocream and then Gaia Natural Baby's Skin Soothing Lotion for the next.
Cleared it up very fast.
We put salt in the water at bath time. If it is really bad when you are giving nappy free time I use salt water in a spray bottle every couple of minutes. We also love PawPaw ointment. An anti fungal(like Canesten, but we get the chemist brand) with a Zinc Cream over the top. And one of the most effective we have found is plain old Cornflour. Just spinkle it on when you change him.
Agree with PP's with the paw paw ointment. Just started with that recently and love it. Previous to that we would use Curash cream which was alright. Though I have not tried it I have read that chamomile tea bags (wet) held on there as a cold compression type thing for awhile at nappy free time can work wonders. You can also make up your own wipes solution with the chamomile tea in it to spray on at every change.
Otherwise I would recommend a visit to the doctor. He can recommend something from the chemist. I did have to do that once and you have to be very careful with the amount of the cream you use on them. Also depending on what type of rash it is you may need to get the one from the doctor to clear it.

thanks so much for your help. :yelclap:
Grab the cornflour from the pantry and sprinkle some very liberally over the rash...do this at each nappy change.
I have used cornflour exculsively now for 2 years, and DS has has the runs a couple of times in that period (darn daycare!). By using the cornflour, he never got rash during an episode. When he did have rash, the cornflour took less than 24hrs to clear it up completely (unless it was fungal, and then the canestan fixed it).
It's cheap, and in your pantry.
OMG, never thougth about using plain cornflour, I always use the baby poweder with cornflour inside, might just go the cornflour and see how that works...
It's amazing stuff, nuddle. I thought that it was one of those wives tales, till DS had a rash that was so bad that his bottom was bleeding. It was so sore that he would not let me touch his bottom to put cream on. So, I went to the pantry and grabbed the box of cornflour.
The next morning, you could hardly tell where his bottom had been bleeding only 24hrs before. I was converted, and haven't used a nappy/rash cream since. (I also unashamedly tell everyone who asks about bad nappy rash cures too - it's so cheap that you just have to try it!)
I will deffinately be doing that now, will get a cheap shaker and put it in there....

Duh, I'm such a dill. I ran out of J&Js cornstarch powder last night and used normal talc instead. I've got cornflour in the cupboard and it never dawned on me to use that.:banghead:
