Since the day he was born by DS has been a chucker. Health Nurses and Paediatrician told me to expect it to get better once he starts on solids, sits up, etc but this is just not the case. He is well established on solids but this just means the vomit is technicolour not milk. He is very happy throughout, grinning while chucking, rarely cries at all during the day, and doesn't even pause when crawling to vomit, just powers on straight through it which is fantastic to clean up! :o
Sometimes an amount the size of the palm of your hand will come up even 3 hours after finishing a feed. He always vomits after a bath, once I lay him down on the change table and will always vomit within 10 seconds of carrying him to the car and putting him in the car seat.

I have tried slow flow teats, breaking up feeds (smaller more often), formula thickener, keeping upright for 1hr after a feed, and he has been tested for lactose intolerance. He has excellent weight gains despite the vomiting and is "normal" on the weight and height charts. BTW, after medication, lactation consultants, GP, Ob/Gyn visits I still had no milk at week 3 so elected to formula feed. DS was born 4 weeks early too so weight gain was quite a priority.

Mother's intuition told me something wasn't right. I booked an appointment with a well known Paediatrician in Melbourne for a second opinion. She thoroughly checked him over and most importantly, really listened to what I had to say. She thought he had an allergy to the protein in cows milk, coupled with minor skin irritations and a wheeze which I hadn't really noticed.

She recommended Neocate formula for him and gave me four cans to try (I now know how generous this was - price!!!! ). I had to wean him on to it over a few days as it obviously tasted and smelt different to Karicare.

The difference has been staggering! He hasn't vomited in two days and his poos are soft and formed, rather than diarrhoea-like, splattered everywhere. But the best thing is, I no longer wash 12 bibs, 3 outfits, sheets and sleeping bags every day! :yelclap: I need to go back to Paediatrician and get a script (once the free tins run out) to buy it.

Question - There is such conflicting advice on the net when googling Neocate. Some say it costs $50, some say $30, others say $3.85 as its on the PBS, some say you pay full price and it goes towards your safety net with medicare. We don't have any concession cards so what is the story?

New to Bub Hub and love the amount of information available!

Neocate is on PBS......so the cost of it will depend on how many tins your paed puts on the script!!!!! It will cost the PBS amount (which is around $30 total) no matter how many tins he puts on. Usually they put 8 (so you get 8 for $30) but under certain circumstances they put more. We get 20 tins on ours because we have to travel quite a distance to get see our specialist and only go once every 6 months......so we get 20 tins for $30. yay for us.

My story is the same as Bec's, except we only get 8 tins for $30!! You need to ensure that it is an authority script in order to get it at this price though.

We don't have any concession cards either.

Isn't it nice when it makes such a difference!! Hope it continues to work for you.

Thanks so much for the information. I have another appointment with the paediatrician next week so will talk to her about how many she can put on the authority! I was shocked at how much money per tin we would be up for but it turns out it's a double blessing! Less money than Karicare and no chucking!!!!! :smiliedance:

Hi Vicimelda,
I was wondering whether you can help and tell me your paediatricians name and where she practices. I have had alot of trouble with GP's not listening to me regarding DS symptoms and want to get a referral to a paed but don't know of one. It sounds like you found some one who is supportive. I have pm'd you also regarding this.
I hope you can help :D
