Well last night and today have been the total crap side of mother hood!!!

I love my daughter dearly but i'm so glad shes now asleep- i don't know how much more of her screaming i could handle! (bad mummy i know- but it is so grating) I know its not her fault but i am tired too....

I'll explain-(and it really is just a whinge so anyone who wants to stop reading now can.... I won't be offended i promise)

My little girl 5.5mths is teething- the little suckers are just showing there pearly heads- so she has a minor temp, bright red cheeks and one very sore mouth.

She has also recently given up the breast- she weaned herself:( so she is now on Formula fulltime- S26 gold! But now she is constipated??? How can i fix this??? I have been giving her extra water- but she only drinks 100-120mls of Formula 6 times a day- and i am worried that topping her up with water will fill her up- and then she wont take the formula--- any thoughts????

To top it all off she has a cold- I think- runny nose, coughing, sneezing etc...

Poor little darling, she is so sad- and even the "mummy cuddles" don't seem to be helping that much!!!! So i have panadoled her, wrapped her, given her a herbal calming mixture and put her to bed!!! Lets hope tonight goes better!!

Any suggestions on how to help are more than welcome!!

Imogensmum - Dont worry whinge away ive been in that mode all weekend ! My poor partner is ready to move out im sure hehehehe.
Thats probably she isnt too happy a cold & teething !!! Poor bubby !
Try some baby balsam it helps with their breathing i found plus they smell yummy !
Otherwise i would burn some normal vicks in an oil burner while having bubs in the bathroom while daddy had a shower i had a cold too & it worked wonders for both of us ! Just use panadol if she gets a bad fever otherwise you just need to let her fight it out. Hard i know.
With the constipation its hard to say really but maybe she will need to change as it may be too strong in some ways. Ive tried a little bit of baby juice or the old school a little bit of brown sugar disolved in water & found these not as full on as say prunes IMO. Otherwise you can try boiling some prunes & then using the water to give her otherwise puree the prunes & feed her a little just be careful how much you give her & watch out when it hits WOW ! I also use baths the help relax bubs this helps it all move towards freedom hehe & sometimes in the bath you have to help "remove" the plug from their anus just using a cloth wiping over gently  sorry TMI but it has gotten that bad only once with us we are quite lucky i guess.

Thank you all for your advice- last night was still crappy but better than the night before!! I did get 4 hrs of sleep YAYAYAY!!!

Well the nasty teeth have again disappeared!! or maybe :D depends which way i look at it! I just wish they'd cut so my little one can be out of pain!!!

I am off to get the prune juice this morning- we'll give that a go!

Imogen has stopped coughing as much but her nose has turned green?? Do i take her to the doc for that or see if she gets a temperature??? Never sure about this one!!

Again, thanks all for taking the time to reply! At least i know that you all understand my whinging!! (compared to my no-baby- friends!!!)

Shannan, you can get coloxyl drops from the chemists, which you give them in their bottle, and it helps after a few doses. Then you give them a dose whenever it plays up...You just get it over the counter, adn its not a harsh thing or anything...

I have it to both mine when they started formula (pretty much from birth), as they both got constipated on it. I didn't have to use it for long, only til their bodies got used to the thicker milk.

Hope this helps...

Regarding the constipation, have you tried a different formula. I know that S26 is known for causing constipation in children. Maybe you could change to Karicare or something else just to see what happens. Hope you little girl is feeling better soon and you get some rest. It is sooooo draining when the little ones arent feeling well.

Janet.

Yeah like TanUch said when its green it means infection & a trip to the doctors is the best thing for her !
TanUch - I agree with you on S26 its horrible IMO but we had the opposite effect ! Bubs kept getting the runs & would cry everytime he pooed was horrible :(
Took him off & never had a problem since !

hello again-
I feel like a new woman!

Yesterday the chemist gave me some suppositories for imy! I didn't use them- too upsetting for me and Imogen!!! So we used prune syrup- and boy did it work a treat:eek: !!!! LOL

We also switched from s26gold- to plain s26! Imy won't take the Karicare- she fights and figets on it- different taste possibly:confused: ???

Chemist said her nose is ok- not fluro green just not clear IYKWIM! So to keep it clean, and make sure she doesn't get it in her eyes or she'll get conjunctivitus!

We are off to the Doc's at 2pm so i'll get it all checked then!

Ta again,

SHannan:D

Hiya Imogen'sMum,

Just FYI, in my personal opinion: it’s a “myth” or bad assumption that S26 Gold caused constipation he he!
Because my son and my friends kids have no trouble with S26 Gold. Constipation does occur for baby who just switch on from BM to Formula because that’s what happened with our Thomas long ago.
It’s something new for them, so they need to get used to it. We almost switch to different formula but because S26 Gold is one of the best (I was so disappointed that Thomas didn’t want my BM anymore) so I wanted to make sure that Thomas received the best substitute and after many consultations with the experts we stick to S26Gold and 2 weeks later Thomas’s bowel movements back to the “normal” phase.

Try not to use any drops like coloxyl too much as advised by my brother who is an OB/Paed because these kinds of thing will make their system “lazy” IYKWIM.
Don’t change the formula if you can help it. It’s not going to hurt to give bub a small amount of water esp. during this summer heat.

Good luck!

TM :D

Hi All

My girls also had no problems at all with S26 gold. I think everyone is different and the above just proves it.

I'm very wary when hearing generalisations one way or the other. I was very frustrated when with a young baby I received lots of contradictory advice :( .

I think the thing to remember is that no one knows your baby as well as you do and you have to do what you think is best. One change in formula won't hurt, and waiting a few more days before trying another brand won't hurt either.:)

Cheers

You would never guess what they feed all the premmie bubs at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane when they aren't feeding them EBM. That's right - S26 Gold. Surely an entire hospital wouldn't have it wrong.

Thought you were just lurking Sopoli.. ;) Not that I have any experience of formula at all, but if one brand was causing excessive problems, surely no-one would buy it so they'd have to change it?

Back to the topic though... glad to hear there's been improvement! :)

None taken, TanUgh.

Btw, my baby (his name is Thomas btw heh) isn’t the only one I know who can take S26Gold with no prob, many bubs in my mothers groups or at his childcare have no problem with it either.
Like I said on my previous post, after long research and consultations with many CHNs, my older brother, other Paeds here in my area had recommended that S26Gold is one of the best but that was all. I highly doubt that my brother would lie or hide some facts about important stuff like that to me eh LOL hey he flew from UK just to visit Thomas recently (well I lied wee bit  , he had business meeting in Melbourne 1 week but hey he stayed in Sydney with us and flew to Melb everyday just so that hed spent time with Thomas!)

To answer your question Cosmic, because there's NOTHING wrong with S26Gold except its bloody expensive!! LOL

TM ;)

Well we are all good here now- thank goodness! 2 poo's today have been normal- clayie formula poo's so we are BOTH much happier!

I changed from the gold to just plain S26- on Dr's recommendation as it is the added IRON in the S26gold that can cause the block up! But again all bubs are sooooo different that one formula will not suit everyone!

I was also led to believe S26 gold was the best of the best- but.... the Dr and the MHN said that all formulas are basically the same- just slightly different additives, so no matter what you choose as long as bub is full, and putting on weight not to be too concerned which brand you go for!

But..(there is that dreaded but) definately do NOT chop and change as it can and will cause blockages in bubs, or sometimes the oppisite(YUCK:eek: )

Again thank you all soooooo much for all your words of wisdom- it really helps to have people to bouce thoughts off!!!

Merry Xmas to all those out there in bubhub world!!:D

P.s- Canberrra Hospital uses NAN- in NNICU and on Pead ward!!! JFYI

My hospital used S26 also & i did have dramas with bubs as in he had the runs & would cry everytime he pooed ! I dont think its necessarily the formula they choose cause its "best" rather who is giving the hospitals the best deal sorry to say but hopsitals run themselves like businesses also that being said im not saying they get whatever is going either if you know what i mean. And like Imogensmum ive spoken to many midwives, CHN's & my pediatrician who have all said they are pretty much the same unless your going into the ones that are for reflux or lactose intolerance for example.
Anyways all that matters is that Imogen is back to her wonderful self !!!
No need for us to be fighting over formula !
Tis the season to be merry ! :D
