Getting a toddler to have a nap in a big bed.

I recently moved DS into his big bed. At night (so far) he's been really good at settling himself and sleeping through.

My problem is when its nap time he just gets up and bangs on the door. Ive tried lying with him, reading to him, sitting on the floor next to him, leaving the room. Once he starts pounding on the door I go in there and he just chatters away but then 20mins later he's grumpy as coz he is tired.

Any tips on how to get him to have a sleep because he really needs one.

My Ds has recently been moved into a big bed. His night sleeps were really good and he would stay in bed and fall asleep by himself. But his day sleeps were horrible :laughing: .
He would also get out of bed and bang on the door.

I make his room dark (he has a big brown blanket over the windows) lay him down on his side and rub his back. He would eventually fall asleep :yelclap: .

I did this for about 2 weeks, it didnt bother me. Now he will lay on his side and settle him self.

My 22 month old is a door banger as well. We have just come out the other side of it though and unfortunately the only answer was persistance. I would go calmly into the room, quietly tell him it was sleep time, lie him down on the bed, give him a quick back rub and leave the room. Each time I would leave him for a longer period. On the first day he didn't sleep at all, but the next he went to sleep after an hour, then less and less time each day. He got to a point where he would bang on the door but if I didn't jump too quickly he would go back and lie down again. Now he mucks about a bit in his room but doesn't complain anymore and goes off to sleep on his own.

My Ds is a door banger too. We are also on the end of it, he has had a toddler bed since he was 12mths and we even had to roll up a towel to put under the door as he used to lie down and look for us as he can see all the way into the lounge room. Now he has a look and can't see us then gets back into bed.
