Just a reminder that tomorrow night is EARTH HOUR!

Have you registered? If you do, you go in the draw to win a Toyota Prius :D

What will you be doing tomorrow night?

What will you be switching off?

It's DH's birthday tomorrow, so I'll be cooking him a birthday dinner and we'll start eating by 6:30pm.

At 7:30pm, I'm going to switch EVERYTHING off (probably at the mains maybe to save going round switching clock etc... off) and then light the candles on his birthday cake, as well as some more candles around the house

ETA: Anyone on Bubhub between 7:30 and 8:30 their time tomorrow night will be in trouble :shame: :p

i dont think i can do it...i am here alone and i am scared at night without some lights on. i even sleep with the kitchen and front porch light on. if DP was home i would feel safe enough to do it but i dont think i can do it when i am here alone....i'm gonna feel so bad i am not participating though.

i will be having most of the lights off but its about the time i put dd to bed so all that will be on is my bedroom light or her light if im putting her to bed! still a lot less electricity than normal and thats the main goal here anyway right?

Argh I want to do it....but we are going to a 30th at a restaurant and my Mum is coming over to our house tobabysit...there is noway she'd be in on it....can I do it earlier?? Or does that defeat the purpose:( Are they going to have another one? Imagine if they made it a weekly or even monthly thing?? That would be amazing....

I know - just think of just one hour a week - how little that would effect us really, but so much in bigger picture!

I heard Maccas and Woolworths are supporting it... so are they closing for this hour, or what? :detective:

Maybe just turn off all the power that she DOESN'T need to use; like your bedroom lamps and alarm clock at the powerpoint; the toaster at the powerpoint; the washing machine, dryer, computer - everything that she WONT be using at the powerpoint.

Even when electrical items are on standby they are using electricity and the aim of Earth Hour is to reduce our electricity consumption

Perhaps not the best idea... unless you want your fridge to start a defrost.

going to turn most lights off and things like dryer and washing machine, which I do at night usually. I think every little bit we save helps...you dont have to turn it all off!!!!

It wont make much difference Laura if you keep it shut :)

Everything is going off in this house. Just turning the main power switch off.

I work for Woolworths and ill be there tonight .... there has been no talk at our store about switching lights off etc... the store is closed at that time so its just nightfillers there....
there is no way we could possibly fill shelves in the dark (too much of a safety issue).... ill ask if we can swicth off the lights we dont need but thats all we would be able to do.

I guess every little bit counts :)

ETA i just looked on the earth hour site and it says that woolworths have signed up.... hmmmm why hasnt my store said anything? im going in now to kick some butte!!! :banghead:

Work didnt do it  Supposedly its an eastern states thing... i cant see why we couldnt join in as well tho... every little bit counts :D
I told the nightfill captain and she wasnt interested the slightest... but i did go switch the staffroom lights off where nobody would notice lol :p

I also turned everything off b4 i went to work so that helps too.

I love the idea of doing this every week, would be good to take some time to just sit back and chill out without the use of all my modern day luxuries. :)

We did it, and it was fantastic. We lit some candles, sat in the garden and talked. It was really really lovely. In fact, it was so good to spend some time together completely uninterrupted by the TV, the computer, cooking, washing blah blah blah that we've decided to do it every week.

I really hope that many families around the country enjoyed an hour of uninterrupted time together.
